what is the difference between a Diode, Zener diode, Schottky diode, and a tunnel diode?

All are devices that conduct readily with forward bias, the main differences involve unique characteristics of the specific types generally having to do more with the reverse conductive attributes of the types suggested, where the slope of current versus voltage for a zener sharply increases at a certain and relatively constant value of reverse bias, so that these find usage as not rectifiers but voltage regulators, The slope for Schottky or avalanche diodes at a much lower value of reverse bias for triggering applications and tunnel diodes have a characteristic curve more like field-effect transistors.
