Yttrium Iron Garnet

Yttrium Iron Garnet

$79.66

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Yttrium iron garnet (YIG) is a kind of synthetic garnet, with chemical composition Y3Fe2(FeO4)3, or Y3Fe5O12. It is a ferrimagnetic material with Curie temperature 550 K. In YIG, the five iron(III) ions occupy two octahedral and three tetrahedral sites, with the yttrium(III) ions coordinated by eight oxygen ions in an irregular cube. The iron ions in the two coordination sites exhibit different spins, resulting in magnetic behaviour. By substituting specific sites with rare earth elements, for example, interesting magnetic properties can be obtained. YIG has high Verdet constant which is applied to the Faraday effect, high Q factor in microwave frequencies, low absorption of infrared wavelengths up to 600 nm, and very small linewidth in electron spin resonance. These Properties make them useful for MOI (magnetic optical imaging) applications in superconductors. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. Active Laser Medium

Active Laser Medium

$68.51

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The active laser medium is the source of optical gain within a laser. The gain results from the stimulated emission of electronic or molecular transitions to a lower energy state from a higher energy state previously populated by a pump source. Examples of active laser media include: Certain crystals, typically doped with rareearth ions or transition metal ions; most often yttrium aluminium garnet, yttrium orthovanadate, or sapphire; Glasses, e.g. silicate or phosphate glasses, doped with laseractive ions; Gases, e.g. mixtures of helium and neon, nitrogen, argon, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, or metal vapors; Semiconductors, e.g. gallium arsenide, indium gallium arsenide, or gallium nitride. In order to lase, the active gain medium must be in a nonthermal energy distribution known as a population inversion. The preparation of this state requires an external energy source and is known as laser pumping. Pumping may be achieved with electrical currents or with light, generated by discharge lamps or by other lasers. More exotic gain media can be pumped by chemical reactions, nuclear fission, or with highenergy electron beams. Yttrium Borides

Yttrium Borides

$70.1

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Yttrium boride refers to a crystalline material composed of different proportions of yttrium and boron, such as YB2, YB4, YB6, YB12, YB25, YB50 and YB66. They are all dark, hard solids having high melting temperatures. The most common form is the yttrium hexaboride YB6. It exhibits superconductivity at relatively high temperature of 8.4 K and, similar to LaB6, is an electron cathode. Another remarkable yttrium boride is YB66. It has large lattice constant (2.344 nm), high thermal and mechanical stability, and therefore is used as a diffraction grating for soft synchrotron radiation (12 keV). Yttrium diboride has the same hexagonal crystal structure as aluminium diboride and magnesium diboride an important superconducting material. In this structure, the boron atoms form graphite like sheets with yttrium atoms between them. YB2 crystals are unstable to moderate heating in air they start oxidizing at 400 C and completely oxidize at 800 C. YB2 melts at 2220 C. Yttrium Nitride

Yttrium Nitride

$58.94

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Yttrium nitride, YN, is a nitride of yttrium. Yttrium nitride is hard ceramic material similar to titanium nitride and zirconium nitride. The nitrides of lanthanum, scandium, and yttrium show semiconducting properties and additionally the lattice structure of YN differs only by 8 from that of gallium nitride. This makes YN a possible buffer layer between a substrate and the GaN layer during GaN crystal growth. Yttrium (pronounced / tri m/ ITree m) is a chemical element with symbol Y and atomic number 39. It is a silverymetallic transition metal chemically similar to the lanthanoids and has historically been classified as a rare earth element. Yttrium is almost always found combined with the lanthanoids in rare earth minerals and is never found in nature as a free element. Its only stable isotope, 89Y, is also its only naturally occurring isotope. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. Synthetic Alexandrite

Synthetic Alexandrite

$58.94

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Synthetic alexandrite is a crystal which has been created by the floating zone method. This method is also used to synthetically grow a variety of crystals: YAG (Yttrium Aluminum Garnet) in white, blue, pink and several other shades, ruby, chrysoberyl and, most and foremost, alexandrite. This method is similar to the pulling (Czochralski method), when the crystal is pulled vertically, but, instead, here it is pulled horizontally, using a tungsten dish and slowmelting technique, where the dish is pulled over a period of time under a heating element. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles YAG (Yard Auxiliary, General) training vessels are wooden boats built between 1954 and 1958, and based at CFB Esquimalt in Esquimalt, British Columbia, Canada. The vessels are used for training Canadian Forces regular naval officers, naval reservists, and members of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets in basic seamanship, vessel handling, and navigation. According to the Department of National Defence, in 2000, a total of 1830 personnel were deployed on the YAGs for a total of 585 days and steamed over 25,000 nautical miles (46,000 km) in support of training. YAGs displace 70 tonnes, and are divided into five major belowdecks compartments: right forward, a chain locker, then the forward cabin, containing the galley, one of the heads (washrooms) and the officers eating and sleeping areas, as well as the gyroscopic (gyro) compass. Yttrium (90y) Tacatuzumab Tetraxetan

Yttrium (90y) Tacatuzumab Tetraxetan

$58.94

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Yttrium (90Y) tacatuzumab tetraxetan (trade name AFPCide) is a humanized monoclonal antibody intended for the treatment of cancer. The antibody itself, tacatuzumab, is conjugated with a chelator for yttrium90, a radioisotope which destroys the tumour cells. The chelator ( tetraxetan ) is 1,4,7,10tetraazacyclododecane1,4,7,10tetraacetic acid. The antibody is attached to one of the four carboxyl groups as an amide, and the other three are carboxylate anions neutralizing the three positive charges of the yttrium ion. Monoclonal antibodies (mAb or moAb) are monospecific antibodies that are the same because they are made by identical immune cells that are all clones of a unique parent cell. Given almost any substance, it is possible to create monoclonal antibodies that specifically bind to that substance; they can then serve to detect or purify that substance. This has become an important tool in biochemistry, molecular biology and medicine. When used as medications, the nonproprietary drug name ends in mab. Laser Bonding

Laser Bonding

$71.7

Laser bonding is a marking technique that uses lasers and other forms of radiant energy to bond an additive marking substance to a wide range of substrates. Invented in 1997, this patent protected technology delivers permanent marks on metals, glass and ceramic parts for a diverse range of industrial and manual applications, ranging from aerospace to the awards engraving industries. It differs from the more widely known techniques of laser engraving and laser ablation in that it is an additive process, adding material to the substrate to form the marking instead of removing it as in those techniques. For metals, parts can be permanently marked with high contrast, high resolution marks for logos, barcoding, identification and serialization purposes, without damage to the substrate. With glass and ceramics, complex surfaces can be decorated or marked and the traditional firing process replaced by a laser, with its permanent bond fired on in seconds. Laser bonding has been achieved by Nd:YAG, CO2 laser, Fiber laser and Diodepumped solidstate laser and can be made by other forms of radiant energy. Laser bonding is often referred to as CerMark, CerMarked, or CerMarking Author: Miller, Frederic P./ Vandome, Agnes F./ McBrewster, John Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 92 Publication Date: 2010/04/23 Language: English Dimensions: 9.02 x 5.98 x 0.22 inches
