Yag Floaters

I have a question reg. laser treatements of the retina?

If someone has weak or thin spots on the retina, I know they can be treated with lasers. Can anyone tell me what kind of laser they use? YAG? LASIK?

Also, can these treatments cause eye floaters? Are there any other dangers involved?

Thanks a lot!

An Argon laser is used for retinal treatment - it penetrates much further than YAG or the ones used for LASIK.

There are dangers involved - but these should outweigh the risk of a retinal tear or detachment to make the surgery worth it.

You can get floaters after the op - just because the eye has been interfered with. That's not a common problem though.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles YAG (Yard Auxiliary, General) training vessels are wooden boats built between 1954 and 1958, and based at CFB Esquimalt in Esquimalt, British Columbia, Canada. The vessels are used for training Canadian Forces regular naval officers, naval reservists, and members of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets in basic seamanship, vessel handling, and navigation. According to the Department of National Defence, in 2000, a total of 1830 personnel were deployed on the YAGs for a total of 585 days and steamed over 25,000 nautical miles (46,000 km) in support of training. YAGs displace 70 tonnes, and are divided into five major belowdecks compartments: right forward, a chain locker, then the forward cabin, containing the galley, one of the heads (washrooms) and the officers eating and sleeping areas, as well as the gyroscopic (gyro) compass. VITREOUS FLOATERS - Laser Treatment

Contact Lens Eye floaters?

About 3 days ago, I slept over at a friend's house. Late at night, I was in too much of a rush to go to sleep, so i took out my contacts with unclean hands, and put them into my contacts case, and felt little pain. The next day, I woke up to find a tiny black web like floater in my peripheral vision. I didn't notice it at first, but now, I see it everywhere, its so annoying. I'm 16 years old so I don't think it's macular degeneration. I'm planning to see my optometrist this weekend, but is there anything you guys can tell me? It there a way to get rid of it? Or will it go away by itself. I'm thinking about the YAG laser treatment, or am I too young? I've been reading up a lot floaters, and I don't enjoy the idea of living with it forever...
Please, tell me something I can do about it, thanks !

It's not related to your contact lens issues. Just let it be a lesson to ALWAYS wash your hands before touching your eye or contact lens.
Sounds like a normal floater but it would be good to have a dilated eye examination to make sure you're not having any retinal problems. YAGs are not commonly performed for floaters and they often just break it up into a lot more smaller floaters.
