You need a laser driver circuit. A laser diode typically has a feedback system that the circuitry will use to monitor it's power levels to regulate the voltage it receives. This keeps it from overheating. You can't simply connect it to a battery. If it's a "laser module", then it's possible that the circuitry is built in but this does not appear to be the case. You might also need a beam collimatinglens. The beams from laser diodes often are not parallel and instead come out in a cone shape.
