question about fluorescent tube bulbs.?
i have this electrical light, it uses two fluorescent tube bulbs at the same time.
i wonder if it is ok just to change one, and leave the one that is not working in the socket? it seems that it works. however, i wonder if it actually costs more electricity due the bigger resistance in the dead bulb?
Take the ballast cover off, if the ballast is electronic then you should be fine, it can fire up one or two lamps with no problem. If it's magnetic(older), then proper operation requires two lamps.
If it is magnetic, I would suggest purchasing a new electronic ballast from your local home store and replacing it. They are energy efficient and less noisy. You can then purchase the more energy efficient tubes, T8's as opposed to the older T12's.

can i put a plug on a roof fluorescent tube light?
i want to hang it in cupboard lol so i can see what clothes i putting on.
i have a socket in the cupboard i can plug it into.
it is 2ft long 18w if so what amp would plug be?
As a rule of thumb you should use upto 75 watts - 3amp, 100watts to 1250watts -5amp over 1250watts - 13amp. Hope this helps
