Does canned food make your cat crazy?
I used to have a very mild and loving cat. Shnookims was her name. But as she got older I felt it best to keep her on a diet of canned and dry food from the store. This was a sustitute to her bringing home and eating road kill and various parts of my trailer.
Now, while she seems content to eat what I supply, her personality has changed darmaticly. Now I can only think that my sweet Shnookims has reverted to something close to something released from the bowels of He!!
Now, while she doesn't go out much and bring back various animals, she has taken it upon hereself to agument her diet with anything chrome or of any value.
Should I, perhaps, bring any road kill that I come across to bring her back to her more loving personality?
An' because it's St. Patrick's Day ... you get this one with an Irish lilt, boy)
She's a cat ... a hunter by nature. Takin' her off the cat food is a good beginnin', for sure, but bringin' home road kill ... well, tha's just no' right. It's still deprivin' her of what she was born to do. The first lad was on the right track with bringing home mice ... live ones. What I do is I have a bird feeder out in the yard strung up about 3-4 feet off a tree limb (I call it the hangin' tree). I fill that bird-feeder up with bird seed. Birds come flockin' to it. I let the cats out and ... they've got dinner ... one they gotta work for but not as hard as if they were out in the wilds trying to scrounge up some vittles. They're gone most o' the day doin' the hunt thing -- granted it's somewhat of a rigged hunt ... but ... it just warms the cockles of me black irish heart when they show their gratitude by bringin' me home a little trophy to say "Look Ma! See what we brung ya?" Peaceful? Mild-mannered? They sleep like wee babes when they've come home for the night.
(Bird seed is a lot cheaper than cat food, too.
