Standard Optical
can standard lenses with slr match the high optical zoom of some p&s?
my current canon sx110 has optical zoom of 10x, can slrs match this
If you are talking purely about the zoom then there are few if any SLR zooms which are 10 x .
There are few and they will always beat the P&S lens hands down.
Sigma do a 18-200, 28-300 and 50-500
Tamron do 18-200, 18-250, 18-270, 28-300
the OEM's tend to stick to the lower end such as Nikon with the 18-200.
Any of these lenses put onto a Dslr will give better overall quality than a P&S, this is all to do with the size of the sensor and the design of the lenses themselves.
Without going into a load of unnecessary detail suffice to say a "big un" will beat a "small 'un" anytime in this case.
