Stabilized Laser

Is laser eye surgery worth it?
I've read that the surgeon essentially creates a lens out of your cornea to correct your vision. However, doesn't vision tend to deteriorate as one ages? I've had the same prescription contacts for about three years now, and I think I need a stronger pair. Does having this surgery avoid this problem? I just turned 24. Is it better to wait until my vision "stabilizes", so I don't throw away all that money?
Ok heres my story:
I had -7 myopia. awfully thick glasses, pretty expensive too and I was virtually blind without them. my glasses were pretty much a part of me, the last thing I did before sleeping and the first thing I reached for when I woke up in the morning. I had astigmatism to boot, and contacts weren't an option. and to make things worse, I had to keep getting stronger pair every 6 months or so.
I am glad I went and got my Lasik. Freedom.
my eyes havent gotten weaker, and I didn't need to get glasses. Apparently glasses and their constant moving towards and away from the eye have something to do with increasing power. Yes as I age, my eyes will get weaker in the close region and I might have to get reading glasses for hyperopia, it is not the same thing, and is much better than glasses 24x7 for normal vision.
Be aware though that it isn't entirely a bed of roses. There are some small differences between perfectly normal eyes and lasik treated eyes. First thing you would notice after surgery is dispersion. Bright lights in the dark tend to spread a little, no a disability but is slightly annoying till you get used to it. (this might or might not happent to you depending on the power that you are corrected for). Another effect is a slight drop in contrast when ambient light is low, again not a real issue.
You should also be aware that not all people are eligible to get lasik. your eligibility is the thickness of your cornea. depending on the power for which your eyesight has to be corrected, your cornea needs to be of atleast a minimum thinkness before a surgeon can create a lens on it. thinning it too much is dangerous because the eye holds some fluids that are under pressure.
Though the surgeon tries to bring the error to 0 Diopters, sometimes there can be a "residual" power left and you might still need to wear glasses after the surgery. But for somebody like me, wearing -0.25 glasses after surgery when i was wearing -7.0 before is perfectly acceptable and is worth the expense. It might not be acceptable for someone wearing -0.5 before the surgery. This is something for you to decide on before you go for the surgery.
24 is a reasonable age to get your lasik. your vision "stabilises" once your growth stops. This is around 18-22 for most people. I'm 25 now, I got my lasik when I was 22.

Pneumatic Stabilized Platform $68.51 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A Pneumatic stabilized platform (PSP) is a technology used to float a very large floating structure (VLFS). PSP utilizes indirect displacement, in which a platform rests on trapped air that displaces the water. The primary buoyancy force is provided by air pressure acting on the underside of the deck. The PSP is a distinct type of pneumatic platform, one in which the platform is composed of a number of cylindrical shaped components packed together in a rectangular pattern to form a module. The Pneumatically Stabilized Platform was originally proposed for constructing a new floating airport for San Diego in the Pacific Ocean, at least three miles off the tip of Point Loma. However, this proposed design was rejected in October, 2003 due to high cost, the difficulty in accessing such an airport, the difficulty in transporting jet fuel, electricity, water, and gas to the structure, failure to address security concerns such as a bomb blast, inadequate room for highspeed exits and taxiways, and environmental concerns. PhysicalChemical Treatment of Stabilized Leachate $183.21 Leachate from a landfill in Taiping was characterized. The potential use of activated carbon, limestone and zeolite and their possible mixtures as an adsorbent was investigated. The batch experiments demonstrated that both combine mixtures of activated carbon with zeolite at 15:25 and activated carbon with limestone and zeolite at 15:10:15 gave the best results. Both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms fitted well to the experimental data. The kinetic results showed that the data fitted well with the pseudo second order equation. The regeneration experiments showed that 0.2 M HNO3 can be used to regenerate activate carbon and 0.2 M HCl and NaCl mixture and regenerate zeolite. Results of the continuous flow experiments for both mixtures indicated that removal can reach up to 5090 of colour, 7090 of COD, 8590 of iron and 5090 of ammoniacal nitrogen. The results indicated that the arrangement of layers of adsorption media inside the column is not significant. It can be concluded that the activated carbonlimestonezeolite and activated carbonzeolite mixtures media exhibited better results for all parameters as compared with the use of individual media. IMU stabilized Laser Range Finder (LRF)
Am I ever going to qualify for laser eye surgery?
I was told that I was within the range of the acceptable laser-eye surgery, but that they had to wait until my vision stabilizes (stop getting worse) for 12 months before they do that because if they go back and do too many touch-ups lasering away at my cornea, then they could collapse *gulp*
I guess my question is: will my prescription ever stop progressing downward? That guy told me that 4 years ago. and I'm like Mr. Magoo without my glasses.... I don't want to be dependent on them anymore!
Hi,
I too am like "mister magoo" without my glasses.
However, I have had NUMEROUS friends/family get laser-eye surgery done, and I always worry---what if I got it done, and I was one of those that did NOT get great results?
There are a few other options currently....I just read an awesome article about some of the other options for those of us with the "mister magoo" vision....but, I forgot which magazine it was in (it was a good article, good reliable sources....but, I read a lot of magazine articles, as they are short/easy for me to read with my vision).
What I have found, is not all eye doctor's offices are the same.
I actually got the BEST vision with my eye glasses from a doc at walmart---over lenscrafters and another vision place....yet, I very much perfer my contacts....I usually wear a THIN pair of glasses OVER my contacts (my contact lens power is pretty high!!) to take care of the astigmatism only, and this works GREAT!!. I can wear SUNGLASSES during the day over my contacts, and I can wear the thin glasses for reading or when driving at night to help take care of halo's.
I currently am a little too nervous to risk my eyes right now---with other problems that put me at increased risk of the surgery making me a "less than ideal canidate".
I am sorry that this is not the answer you were looking for most likely, but......just some suggestions.
good luck!!
ps--your eyes SHOULD stop progressing downward, BUT, some family histories DO have some problems where you will continue to have eyes that continue to get worse every year.....sad to say.
My eyes are pretty much the same for the last 6 years....and I have HORRIBLE eyes....-13 I think on contact lenses.....pretty blind. most contacts do not come that strong.
