Seeing a bit of the Infrared spectrum?
At night or when it is dim, I can see red light coming out of the diode every time i press a button on the remote control. Also, on my mobile phone when I use infrared data transfer.
It is quite dim on the remote control and rather bright with my mobile phone.
Is that just light in the visible Spectrum which happens to also come out off iodides?
Your infrared control is in the shorter IR wavelengths, or the red light is not fully filtered out. IR is below visible red in the spectrum. "Red hot" bodies will emit IR as well as visible light.
CCD and CMOS detectors used in cameras will respond to IR., and will show as apparently white. This is why if you see a camera image taken in the dark with invisible IR lighting, it is always a black- and- white image.
It's also a useful way to check functionality of IR control devices (and functionality of all the control buttons).

What can I do with this CD laser diode?
Today I was bored and found one of my old CD players, and decided to disassemble it. When i took the laser diode out, I was wondering if I could make, possibly, a visible spectrum laser, or any other uses that would entertain me.
If there is any way I can go about making it into a visible spectrum laser or anything else that is fun, please do inform me.

Nothing fun. As the other person wrote it's a very low power invisible laser.
To make something useful take the parts to an electronic recycling facility as it contains toxic chemicals and metals.
