What was the effect of reversing the connection of all the diodes to the output voltage?


Diodes are designed to allow current flow in one direction, and one direction only. They are part of a circuit, and performs a very specific function for at least one other circuit. Rarely does a manufacturer place "extra" components inside a unit, just for kicks. At the very least, you are now forcing a previously balanced design, to process signals it wasn't designed to handle or that may be way beyond it's design parameters. Initial and chronic damages may be minimal, but in rare cases, it could cause a complete system failure I cannot think of single, compelling reason to simply arbitrarily reverse electrical connections on any piece of equipment on a whim.
