A laser is focused high energy light. The scientific name of LASER is 'Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation'. Ordinary light emits photons in all the directions and consists of many wavelengths. Unlike that, laser emits photons in a single direction and consists of a single wavelength. Laser therefore has very high energy and can be focused on any object or in any direction.
Laser is being used to treat many kinds of skin imperfections. Acne is caused by malfunctioning sebaceous glands, excessive population of bacteria P. acnes and excess sebum. Studies have been done to find out how the focused laser energy can treat acne. Let us look at that.
Acne Treatment and diode laser.
Diode laser has been found to be effective in treatment of acne on the back. Diode laser has been also found very effective in treatment of acne on the face. Very good results have been obtained with two or three treatments with diode laser The treatment is well tolerated under local anesthetic and side effects are limited to redness that goes away in some days.
Acne Treatment and pulsed dye laser-
Acne treatment with pulsed dye laser has not been found to be satisfactory in different studies. More studies are required to find out about the effectiveness of pulsed dye laser on acne.
