What does 1A 100PIV mean, etc few examples?

I want to understand what manufacturers mean when they say

Rectifier Diode 1A/ 100PIV
Rectifier Diode 1A/ 200PIV
Zener 10V 1 Watt
Zener 22V 5 Watt
Full Wave Bridge Rectifier 1 Amp 100 PIV

I dont understand if that is what it can handle, what it can output, the drop across it, what?

Is it saying for example, the zener only allows 10V as a regulator in reverse bias?
Is it saying the Rectifier diode only allows 1A through
Does the bridge rectifier handle 120VAC voltage in both conditions, what?

1A/ 100PIV is 100 volts Peak Inverse Voltage with a 1amp maximum reverse current.
10V is the voltage required to "avalanche" the diode to conduct in the reverse bias. Watts is the power rating.

Diodes and rectifiers are usually rated in maximum forward current and peak inverse voltage. The 1A could mean the diodes current rating forward bias not reverse. 1 amp is a very high reverse current.I just never seen it written like you have it. Usually it will say something like this : PIV = 100v Ir = 3ma Io = 1 amp

how to make 3v 300mA regulated rectifier from a 3.7v 355mA transformer without using zener diode?

See my previous answer. The transformer in a bridge rectifier configuration with a large cap will deliver about:

3.7 x 1.4 = 5.2 volts
subtract two diode drops, and get 4 volts.
Not enough for an ordinary 3 terminal regulator to get 3.7 volts.

But there are PNP type regulators that will operate very close to the rails. Can't remember the part number, but a little research should turn them up.

Since the transformer is only rated at 355mA, a voltage doubler is not good.

PS, I never heard of a transformer with these specs. Probably generated by whoever wrote the homework assignment.

Zener diode has no chance of working anyway.

PS, one thing I have learned after years of this type of design is to have lots of extra voltage.

What you didn't account for is the line voltage variations. nominal 115 volts AC can vary from 105 to 125. so the 3.7 volts can vary as low as 3.4 volts, which produces an output after the diodes of 3.6 volts, too low to produce 3.7 volts. So the whole thing is impossible.
