Rectifier Diode High Voltage

Can Diodes be placed without proper resistance?
While looking at circuit schematic of a rectifier, i recalled that i once came across a fine article on diodes that read "diodes offer almost zero resistance to current hence theres a greater possibility that it can burn out at high voltage operation, hence its advisable to use resistors before every power diode" So, does it mean that we should place resistors before diodes or is it just for high voltage operation? if so, how should resistance be matched with every diode?
I'm really confused because the schematics for rectifiers dont show a resistor placed before any of the diodes :-s
The load acts to limit current so in normal application, no resistor is required or desired.
I don't know where that statement came from, but it is false. Unless you misquoted it. For example, this is correct "LED diodes offer almost zero resistance to current hence there's a possibility that it can burn out at higher voltage operation, hence its advisable to use resistors in series with every one"
The resistance is not zero, just low.
edit: the exception is if you put diodes in parallel, you need resistors to equalize the current between them. Usually very small. For example, if you put 5 - 1 amp diodes in parallel, you would use about 0.5 ohms in series with each. You would still not get 5 amps out of it, perhaps 3 or 4.
Diodes in parallel are never recommended as the negative temperature coefficient tends to cause all the current to flow through 1 diode. Vf of a diode goes down by 2mv per degree. If one diode started to use more current, it would get hotter, and it's lower Vf would cause even more current to flow, positive feedback, leading to overheating and distruction.

Voltage Doubler $54.86 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A voltage doubler is an electric circuit with an AC input and a DC output of roughly twice the peak input voltage. They are a variety of voltage multiplier circuit and are often, but not always, a single stage of a general form of such circuits. The term is usually applied to circuits consisting of rectifying diodes and capacitors only, other means of doubling voltages are not included. The Villard circuit consists simply of a capacitor and a diode. While it has the great benefit of simplicity, its output has very poor ripple characteristics. Essentially, the circuit is a diode clamp circuit. Sovtek 5AR4 Rectifier Tube $24.99 The 5AR4 is Sovtek's version of a common rectifier tube used in rectifier-equipped high powered amps such as Fender 40W and Vox AC-30 amplifiers. Common to higher powered tube amps, like the later Fender Super Reverb amps and the Vox AC30 (or Matchless copies). May be used to replace a 5U4 or 5Y3 tube and will give a faster more dynamic tonal result. The Sovtek 5AR4 rectifier has a rise time from 300-400 volts that is about 1/2 that of a 5U4 tube. Sovtek 5AR4s work nicely in amps such as the Mesa Rectifier series which use the 5U4. Great if you want a feel and response that is tighter than stock rectifiers yet you want to retain the feel and compression character of a vacuum rectifier over the solid-state setting. |

Transmission Lines and Schottky Diode $108.33 A nonlinear relation between current and voltage for schottky resonant tunneling diode is used. A general form of equation similar to VanDer Pol equation is obtained. A Resonant tunneling diode(RTD) has a negative differential resistance that means when the voltage increases the current decreases. This property is very useful for oscillators manufacture. Nonlinear transmission lines is considered to show that it canbe used in oscillators and to show that it can reshape the sinusoidal signals to othershapes by using OrCad and mathematica programming. High-Voltage Rectifiers Flashing Over
rectifiers? (high voltage)?
how can i make, improvise, or buy a high voltage diode? if so from what/where? any help would b ppreciated!!!! is there any way to combine diodes into a new diode with a higher voltage tolerance? thx!
Yes, you can put diodes in series to add their inverse breakdown voltage. But the diodes must be well matched for this to work. Look for HV diodes on line. the ones over a few thousand volts contain matched series diodes internally.
Search on google for "buy HV diodes" and you will find lots.
