Puff Valve
Puff Valve
What other causes would indicate a Vallve Job as fix?

98 Toyota van,at 39K miles, the oil change showed a little to much oil in the crank case. I noticed the hose between the valve cover and the air intake snorkle was leaking oil and it puffed white smoke in the morning.
This is A Toyota 3.0 Litter engine 1998 which is prone to sludge problem and who know what else, almost failed smog, High NOX.
Need advice on whether to keep or dump it,valve job is near 3K,miles on it are 154K.
Thanks

at 39k you certainly would not need a valve job. I don't understand too much oil in crankcase unless someone over filled it. The only way to check for valve problems is a compression check. These symptoms sound like pressure in the crankase forcing oil into valve cover and to air cleaner. Hard to say without hands on.

puff of smoke ./ bad PVC valve

Difficult to start my car.?

The last few weeks I have noticed smoke coming out of my exhaust when I start my car. I brought it in to get fixed and they said it was the catalytic converter. They changed that and the 02 sensors. Now it is worse, I can barely get it started in the morning. As soon as I try to start it the car really starts to shake and the smoke coming out of the exhaust is worse than before. It looks like a big puff of fog actually. I have to bring it back in this afternoon. Does anyone know what it can be? Someone told me it could be the valve seals on the engine. Please answer if you have any idea as to what the problem could be. I appreciate all answers.
It is an Oldsmobile Alero - 2002.

In most cases valve seals could be correct as they will ruin oxygen sensors as well. The other thing to check is make sure you do not have a head gasket leaking. This can cause you to experience hard start as well... I am sorry if i knew more like year make and model might be able to help more... blue, or white smoke (blue says oil is leaking) (white is coolant or anti-freeze)
