Computer needs new power source. When i get that fixed, can i get data from old computer onto the new one?

A friend is giving me a computer that is nicer than the one i have, but it needs a new power source put in. Once i have that done, can i have all my stuff ( favorites, pictures, shortcuts, adresses, etc...) transferred from my old computer to the new one? How do i do that? Do i need to have the computer people who are putting in the power source to do it for me? I am really ignorant about the workings of computers, so forgive me if this is a stupid question.
