Question on semiconductor LED?
A blue semiconductor LED is connected in series with a 10 Ω series resistor to a voltage source. The LED emits 4.03 x 10^16 photons/s at a wavelength of 400 nm. The current flowing through the LED is 40 mA and the voltage across the LED is 3.5 V. What would be the power conversion efficiency of the diode.
TKS a lot for your help!!!
The energy of a photon, E, is
E = hc/l,
c = 2.998 × 108 m/s = the speed of light
h = 6.626 × 10-34 joule·s = Planck's Constant
l = wavelength
Total emitted energy EE is then 4.03 * 10^16 * E
Power conversion efficiency = EE/(3.5*0.04)
Please put in the numbers.

The Diodes $93.99 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Diodes were a Canadian punk/new wave band formed in 1976. They released five albums: Diodes (1977), Released (1979), ActionReaction (1980), Survivors (1982), and Time/Damage Live 1978 (2010). One of the first Toronto bands playing that style of music, The Diodes helped foster the scene in the city. Along with manager Ralph Alfonso, The Diodes opened the first Canadian punk nightclub in 1977, called Crash n Burn, where many of the citys punk bands at that time played. The first band to play the club was The Nerves, on a double bill with The Diodes. The club was closed at the end of the summer of 1977 due to complaints by the Liberal Party of Ontario (the principal tenants of the building). Semiconductor Energy Conversion Devices $170.47 Finding ways of cost efficient, environmentfriendly and sustainable energy generation as well as energy consumption, is one of our biggest challenges. Solid state energy conversion technologies such as photovoltaic (PV) cells, (solar or otherwise thermophotovoltaic (TPV) systems, concentrated solar power (CSP) and solidstate lighting (SSL), provides very attractive prospects for sustainable, environmentally clean and gridcompetitive energy generation and general purpose lighting on a large scale. Despite many years of research and development, the power conversion efficiencies of these technologies remain far below their theoretical limits. The efficiency of conversion between electrical and photonic energy in optoelectronic devices such as lightemitting diodes, photodetectors and solar cells is strongly affeected by the photonic modes supported by the device structure. In this book, we explore the theoretical conversion efficiencies of these technologies and demonstrate how tuning of the local photon density of states in subwavelength structures can be used to optimize device performance and achieve better efficiency as well as cost. Light-Emitting Diodes (Hardcover) $186.1 Revised and fully up-dated, the second edition of this graduate textbook offers a comprehensive explanation of the technology and physics of LEDs such as infrared, visible-spectrum, ultraviolet, and white LEDs made from III-V semiconductors. Elementary properties such as electrical and optical characteristics are reviewed, followed by the analysis of advanced device structures. With nine additional chapters, the treatment of LEDs has been vastly expanded, including new material on device packaging, reflectors, UV LEDs, III-V nitride materials, solid-state sources for illumination applications, and junction temperature. Radiative and non-radiative recombination dynamics, methods for improving light extraction, high-efficiency and high-power device designs, white-light emitters with wavelength-converting phosphor materials, optical reflectors, and spontaneous recombination in resonant-cavity structures are discussed in detail. With exercises, solutions, and illustrative examples, this textbook will be of interest to scientists and engineers working on LEDs and graduate students in electrical engineering, applied physics, and materials science. |

Rate Equations in Semiconductor Electronics $58.93 This is a novel approach to teaching dynamic aspects of the operation of semiconductor and optoelectronic devices. The traditional approach emphasizes an understanding of the steady equilibrium operation. However, dynamic aspects often determine the steady state conditions and the dynamical operation is of increasing importance as modern methods of communicating data and information require electronic devices that switch electrical or optical signals at ever faster rates. The opening chapter considers a number of simple problems, several drawn from daily experience, where the rates of movement can be used to determine equilibrium states. The remainder of the book concentrates on specific problems in semiconductor physics: the rates at which transistors and diodes can switch, and the rates at which electrons and holes can interact with photons, and photons with photons. Fundamentals of Semiconductor Processing Technologies $272.43 The drive toward new semiconductor technologies is intricately related to market demands for cheaper, smaller, faster and more reliable circuits with lower power consumption. The development of new processing tools and technologies aims at optimizing one or more of these requirements. This goal, however, can only be achieved by a concerted effort between scientists, engineers, technicians, and operators in research, development, and manufacturing. It is thus important that experts in specific disciplines, such as device and circuit design, understand the principle, capabilities, and limitations of tools and processing technologies. It is also important that those working on specific unit processes, such as lithography or hot processes, be familiar with other unit processes used to manufacture the product. Fundamentals of Semiconductor Processing Technologies is written to bridge different disciplines. It presents to engineers and scientists those parts of modern processing technologies that are of greatest importance to the design and manufacture of semiconductor circuits. The material is presented with sufficient detail to understand and analyze interactions between processing and other semiconductor disciplines, such as design of devices and circuits, their electrical parameters, reliability, and yield. Fundamentals of Semiconductor Processing Technologies serves as a base on which to build an understanding of the manufacture of semiconductor products. It is written in a form to satisfy the needs of engineers and scientists in semiconductor research, development and manufacturing, and to be conveniently used for a onesemester graduatelevel course in semiconductor engineering or materials science curriculum. Power supply: Typically converts AC (alternating current) power from an outlet to DC (direct current) power. In general, converts power from one form into a form that is usable by a device's circuits.
Transformers: Converts an AC voltage from one voltage to another voltage using two sets of coils wound around a common magnetic (typically iron) ring.
Modems: This stands for modulator/demodulator. It converts signals to be sent, either digital or analog, into signals that can be transmitted over a network (a.k.a. modulated), and receives sent signals that were modulated by demodulating them. The common high-pitch whine of a modem (if you pick up a phone line while it's in use) is a series of bytes being turned into frequencies that can be transmitted over a phone line, because a phone line can only transmit frequencies, not constant voltages.
PLL: Phase locked loop. These are used all over the place for way too many purposes to list here. A main purpose is to detect a frequency within a signal.
VCO: Voltage controlled oscillator. These are used to generate frequencies. For telecommunication, these produce tones that we can here.
Semiconductors: These are electronic components that use a special property of some materials. They are neither conductors nor insulators. Rather, by applying electric fields and small currents, they can be made to conduct, by modifying the energy levels in the electron shells of the atoms that make up the material. Silicon is the most commonly used semiconductor.
Transistors: These are a semiconductor device. They have three wires (pins) coming out of them. By applying a small current between two of the pins, one is able to control a larger current through the third pin.
Diodes: These are also semiconductor devices. They have two pins coming out of them. They have the special property that electrical current can only flow one direction through them.
