1) Load current,
2) load voltage
3) load power
4) diode power
5) Total power.
Thanks, your help is much appreciated.
Assuming a .7V drop across the diode. Power rounded to nearest Milli watt.
1. load current = 19.3V/1K Ohm = 19.3mA
2. load Voltage = 20 V - .7V = 19.3 V
3. Load power = 19.3V x .0193A = 372 mW
4. diode power = .7V x .0193 A = 14 mW
5. total power = 20V x 19.3 mA = 386 mW

Ignition coils can handle quite high power levels.
If you use a power diode to reduce a DC voltage, will the diode consume any amps?
(Any references would be great)
Current isn't consumed, but due to resistance and a reduction in voltage not as much current will flow.
Consider a 1 OHM resistor at 10 volts in series with a diode.
Current = Volts / resistance
Assuming a perfect ideal diode with 0 voltage drop.
(10 - 0 )/ 1 = 10/1 = 10 amps
But due to the forward voltage drop of .7v in a real world diode there will be a voltage drop which will leave less voltage to push electrons through the resistor.
(10 - .7) /1 = 9.3 /1 = 9.3 amps
This isn't a loss of current its just less current.
If you look at figure 7 of the data sheet for the 100A diode, you will see a chart plotting the forward power loss vs high level current.
Any time current passes through a resistance you will have an I Squared power loss in the form of heat.
Power = Voltage * Current
Power = Current * Current * Resistance ( I^2 * R)
Despite having a low resistance there is still some resistance which will cause heat build up if enough current is flowing in the circuit. This is why devices have heat sinks to carry away heat and minimize heat build up in the device.
The generation of heat is a power loss
