Physics Newport Any way for me to get ready for college academics?
I am attending the University of Florida in the Fall. With a 29 on my ACT and a 3.85 GPA..5 APs, all the rest honors excepting electives and one physics class...I feel as if I might be prepared for the college atmosphere. However, I'm a bit worried about time management. I was reccomended a book (How to Become a Straight-A Student by Cal Newport) and was wondering if anybody had any experience with this kind of guide..or, better yet, this book in particular. Also, any tips/pointers for my first year of college? I am looking to go to graduate school [I am an intended Biochemistry major] so a 3.8-3.9 is vital to hit those top-tiers. I also am rushing for a sorority and being active in student government along with research projects. I know..a lot.
Time management and organization skills are a must. You did well in HS, but college schedules are so different. Write everything out. Have a calendar up on the wall showing all due dates/test. Have a assignment book, write a daily/weekly to do list. This is possible. My daughter just make the dean's list first semester with 18 credits and a ton of outside class activities.
Designed specifically for non-majors, PHYSICS: A CONCEPTUAL WORLD VIEW provides an engaging and effective introduction to physics using a flexible, fully modular presentation ideal for a wide variety of instructors and courses. Incorporating highly effective Physics Education Research pedagogy, the text features an ongoing storyline describing the development of the current physics "world view," which provides students with an understanding of the laws of nature and the context to better appreciate the importance of physics. The text's appealing style and minimal use of math also help to make complex material interesting and easier to master, even for students normally intimidated by physics or math. For instructors who want to incorporate more problem-solving skills and quantitative reasoning, the optional, more detailed, "Problem Solving to Accompany Physics: A Conceptual World View" student supplement reveals more of the beauty and power of mathematics in physics. The text can also be customized to fit any syllabus through Cengage Learning's TextChoice custom solution program. In addition, the new Seventh Edition includes a thoroughly revised art program featuring elements such as balloon captions and numerous illustrations to help students better visualize and understand key concepts.

I have 100+ hours of community service, the same job for all four years of high school, the VP of the Teenage Republicans Club, a member of Model United Nations for three years, and a member of Junior Statesmen of America for two years. I was also on the golf team freshman year and am involved in my church where a received some community service hours. Also, I'm turning in one letter of rec from my AP US History teacher...
Any recommendations or improvements I should make?
