Prpetual motion machine - shows conservation of energy - stel balls hanging touching each other raise first ball let it fall and see what happens, do the same with two, three foru balls and see effect. Simple and good.
The LHC is a proton collider with an energy of 14 TeV in the center of mass located at CERN (Geneva, Switzerland). The ATLAS experiment is one of the four experiments installed on the LHC. It searches for the Higgs boson and other new particles predicted by models of physics beyond the standard model such as supersymmetry. Electrons have a major role in the measurement of the parameters of the Standard Model, in the search for new physics and in the study of the detector performance. However, a severe discrimination of the hardronic background is necessary. In this work, the reconstruction and identification of electrons in the ATLAS detector is presented. A number of quantities are studied in order to reject the backgrounds while optimising signal efficiency. Supersymmetry is an extension to the Standard Model in which a new particle is associated to each existing particle. In this thesis, the signatures of a model in which scalars are decoupled are studied. The discovery potential, the measurements, their backgrounds and uncertainties are investigated. These are then used to estimate the potential for the determination of the models parameters at the LHC. The new edition of this introductory graduate textbook provides a concise but accessible introduction to the Standard Model. It has been updated to account for the successes of the theory of strong interactions, and the observations on matter-antimatter asymmetry. It has become clear that neutrinos are not mass-less, and this book gives a coherent presentation of the phenomena and the theory that describes them. It includes an account of progress in the theory of strong interactions and of advances in neutrino physics. The book clearly develops the theoretical concepts from the electromagnetic and weak interactions of leptons and quarks to the strong interactions of quarks. Each chapter ends with problems, and hints to selected problems are provided at the end of the book. The mathematical treatments are suitable for graduates in physics, and more sophisticated mathematical ideas are developed in the text and appendices.
The book reviews the latest experimental results of charm and bottom flavor physics at the Tevatron proton-antiproton collider. The measurements of lifetimes, branching ratios and mixing properties of heavy flavored hadrons provide important constraints on fundamental parameters of the standard model ? the elements of the CKM matrix. Comparisons of experimental results with theoretical predictions allow to search for physics beyond the standard model or to set bounds on parameters of new physics models. The experimental techniques developed at the Tevatron are highly relevant for the next generation flavor physics experiments at the LHC. This book provides the reader a detailed summary of the status of heavy flavor physics at the end of the Tevatron data taking period and the start of the LHC program.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Technicolor theories are models of physics Beyond the Standard Model that address electroweak symmetry breaking, the mechanism through which elementary particles acquire masses. Early technicolor theories were modelled on quantum chromodynamics (QCD), the color theory, which inspired their name. Instead of introducing elementary Higgs bosons, technicolor models break electroweak symmetry and generate masses for the W and Z bosons through the dynamics of new gauge interactions. Although asymptotically free at very high energies, these interactions must become strong and confining (and hence unobservable) at lower energies that have been experimentally probed. This dynamical approach is natural and avoids the hierarchy problem of the Standard Model. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. Nuclear Physics in a Nutshell provides a clear, concise, and up-to-date overview of the atomic nucleus and the theories that seek to explain it. Bringing together a systematic explanation of hadrons, nuclei, and stars for the first time in one volume, Carlos A. Bertulani provides the core material needed by graduate and advanced undergraduate students of physics to acquire a solid understanding of nuclear and particle science. Nuclear Physics in a Nutshell is the definitive new resource for anyone considering a career in this dynamic field. The book opens by setting nuclear physics in the context of elementary particle physics and then shows how simple models can provide an understanding of the properties of nuclei, both in their ground states and excited states, and also of the nature of nuclear reactions. It then describes: nuclear constituents and their characteristics; nuclear interactions; nuclear structure, including the liquid-drop model approach, and the nuclear shell model; and recent developments such as the nuclear mean-field and the nuclear physics of very light nuclei, nuclear reactions with unstable nuclear beams, and the role of nuclear physics in energy production and nucleosynthesis in stars.Throughout, discussions of theory are reinforced with examples that provide applications, thus aiding students in their reading and analysis of current literature. Each chapter closes with problems, and appendixes address supporting technical topics.

"Exploring the phenomenology of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, LHC Physics focuses on the first years of data collected at the LHC as well as the experimental and theoretical tools involved. It discusses a broad spectrum of experimental and theoretical activity in particle physics, from the searches for the Higgs boson and physics beyond the Standard Model to studies of quantum chromodynamics, the B-physics sector, and the properties of dense hadronic matter in heavy-ion collisions.Covering thetopics in a pedagogical manner, the book introduces the theoretical and phenomenological framework of hadron collisions and presents the current theoretical models of frontier physics. It offers overviews of the main detector components, the initial calibration procedures, and search strategies. The authors also provide explicit examples of physics analyses drawn from the recently shut down Tevatron. In the coming years, or perhaps even sooner, the LHC experiments may reveal the Higgs boson and offer insight beyond the Standard Model. Written by some of the most prominent and active researchers in particle physics, this volume equips new physicists with the theory and tools needed to understand the various LHC experiments and prepares them to make futurecontributions to the field"--

The History of the Atomic Model - physics. Any help appreciated?
hi
i am yr 11 and for our physics assignment i have to write a 3000 word physics report on "The History of The Atomic Model".
what i am asking is what should i include in the report like contents wise.
it would be very much appreciated if i could get some answers and if possible include some infomation about the topic. even some reference sites would be great.
thanks for your time. aussie_snowboarder92
Well I would suggest starting with this site, and go from there... http://galileo.phys.virginia.edu/classes/252/atoms.html
It would probably be best to write the paper in chronological order based on when the theories were created.
