Coherent Evolution in Noisy Environments

Coherent Evolution in Noisy Environments

In the last two decades extraordinary progress in the experimental handling of single quantum objects has spurred theoretical research into investigating the coupling between quantum systems and their environment. Decoherence, the gradual deterioration of entanglement due to dissipation and noise fed to the system by the environment, has emerged as a central concept. The present set of lectures is intended as a highlevel, but selfcontained, introduction into the fields of quantum noise and dissipation.In particular their influence on decoherence and applications pertaining to quantum information and quantum communication are studied, leading the nonspecialist researchers and the advanced students gradually to the forefront of research. Physics of Condensed Matter

Physics of Condensed Matter

$71.47

Physics of Condensed Matter is designed for a two-semester graduate course on condensed matter physics for students in physics and materials science. While the book offers fundamental ideas and topic areas of condensed matter physics, it also includes many recent topics of interest on which graduate students may choose to do further research. The text can also be used as a one-semester course for advanced undergraduate majors in physics, materials science, solid state chemistry, and electrical engineering, as it offers a breadth of topics applicable to these majors. The book begins with a clear, coherent picture of simple models of solids and properties, and progresses to more advanced properties and topics later in the book. It offers a comprehensive account of the modern topics in condensed matter physics by including introductory accounts of the areas of research where intense research is underway. The book assumes a working knowledge of quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, electricity and magnetism and Green's function formalism (for the second-semester curriculum).Covers many advanced topics and recent developments in condensed matter physics which are not included in other texts and are hot areas: Spintronics, Heavy fermions, Metallic nanoclusters, Zno, Graphene and graphene-based electronic, Quantum hall effect, High temperature superdonductivity, Nanotechnology A diverse number of Experimental techniques clearly simplified End of chapter problems

Coherent Duality

Coherent Duality

$58.94

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Coherent duality in mathematics refers to a number of generalisations of Serre duality, applying to coherent sheaves, in algebraic geometry and complex manifold theory, as well as some aspects of commutative algebra that are part of the local theory. The historical roots of the theory lie in the idea of the adjoint linear system of a linear system of divisors in classical algebraic geometry. This was reexpressed, with the advent of sheaf theory, in a way that made an analogy with Poincare duality more apparent. Then according to a general principle, Grothendiecks relative point of view, the theory of JeanPierre Serre was extended to a proper morphism; Serre duality was recovered as the case of the morphism of a nonsingular projective variety (or complete variety) to a point. The resulting theory is now sometimes called SerreGrothendieckVerdier duality, and is a basic tool in algebraic geometry. A treatment of this theory, Residues and Duality (1966) by Robin Hartshorne, became an accessible reference. One concrete spinoff was the Grothendieck residue. Nonequilibrium Statistical Physics (Paperback)

Nonequilibrium Statistical Physics (Paperback)

$183.76

Authored by one of the top theoretical physicists in Germany, and a well-known authority in the field, this is the only coherent presentation of the subject suitable for masters and PhD students, as well as postdocs in physics and related disciplines.Starting from a general discussion of the nonequilibrium state, different standard approaches such as master equations, and kinetic and linear response theory, are derived after special assumptions. This allows for an insight into the problems of nonequilibrium physics, a discussion of the limits, and suggestions for improvements. Applications and typical examples are given, as well as fully worked problems (simple to advanced) with summaries for each chapter. The whole is rounded off by a comprehensive glossary.

physic exercise : light interference?

Coherent light that contains two wavelengths, 660 nm and 470 nm, passes through two narrow slits with a separation of 0.340 mm and an interference pattern is observed on a screen which is a distance 4.40 m from the slits.

What is the distance on the screen between the first-order bright fringe for each wavelength?

λ₁= 660 nm = 6.6 x 10^-7 m
λ₂= 470 nm = 4.7 x 10^-7 m
d = 0.340 mm = 3.4 x 10^-4 m
L = 4.40 m

use formula : y = k (λ L)/d . . . . . (k = order of bright fringe)

● for : λ₁= 6.6 x 10^-7 m (the first-order → k = 1)
=> y₁= 1 {(6.6 x 10^-7) (4.40)} / 3.4 x 10^-4
=> y₁= 8.54 x 10^-3 m = 8.54 mm

● for : λ₂= 4.7 x 10^-7 m . . . . . . (the first-order → k = 1)
=> y₂= 1 {(4.7 x 10^-7 ) (4.40)} / 3.4 x 10^-4
=> y₂= 6.08 x 10^-3 m = 6.08 mm

● so, the distance on the screen between the first-order bright fringe for each wavelength :
=> ∆y = y₁- y₂
=> ∆y = 8.54 - 6.08 = 2.46 mm
