Photodiode Photodetector
Photodiode Photodetector
for a photodetector ckt, the OFF to ON phase is faster but ON to OFF is slower. need sharp edges on both sides?

designed a PD ckt in the following configuration. ( vdd-100k-PD-gnd). output is taken from the common point of res-PD. when light falls, PD is ON, o/p goes from HIGH-to-LOW...this edge is fast, tf=2uS. but, when light goes off, the PD turns off, o/p goes from LOW-to-HIGH.. now this edge is much more slower .. tr~40uS.

pls suggest a way to make both edges faster. is it the parasitic capacitance of the resistor or the turning off time of the photodiode?

if you just need faster transition times a Schmidt trigger will do that
if you need the photo-detector to be faster then it is trickier!

There may be some better circuits in here

Broadband OptoElectrical Receivers in Standard CMOS

Broadband OptoElectrical Receivers in Standard CMOS

$269.24

This book opens with the basics of the design of optoelectronic interface circuits. The text continues with an indepth analysis of the photodiode, transimpedance amplifier (TIA) and limiting amplifier (LA). To thoroughly describe light detection mechanisms in silicon, first a onedimensional and second a twodimensional model is developed. All material is experimentally verified with several CMOS implementations, with ultimately a fully integrated Gbit/s optical receiver frontend including photodiode, TIA and LA. Wireless Optical Sensor Link by Khan, Iram [Paperback]

Wireless Optical Sensor Link by Khan, Iram [Paperback]

$111.53

Wireless Optical Sensor Link mainly deals with the wireless transfer of information (temperature sensor reading) from one point (transmitter) to another (receiver) through a small distance (25cm) via infrared medium. The involvement of infrared medium makes it highly reliable for short range communication. Moreover, the best factor involving infrared medium being that, it does not pass through walls and hence can well be contained in the walls of the room which makes it highly feasible for indoor communication. Additionally, it also gives an opportunity to have the same wavelength in different rooms without disrupting each others communication. The information is coded in the proper format for transmission with the help of a transmitter circuit and transmitted with the help of an infrared emitter. This signal is then detected at the receiving side with the help of a photodetector circuit and finally demodulated and decoded back to the originally sent signal with the help of an integrator circuit. The result obtained was approximately the same as to what was being transmitted. Noise and other factor interrupting the signal have been taken into consideration as well. Sennheiser MO2000 Set Special Application Product

Sennheiser MO2000 Set Special Application Product

$3335

Sennheiser MO2000 Set Special Application Product The MO 2000 Set from Sennheiser is a specialty measurement microphone that can go where other microphones fear to tread. The microphone uses a light from an LED that is directed onto a reflective diaphragm. As the diaphragm is moved by sound signals, a displacement of the reflected light is read by a receiver waveguide, which in turn activates a photodiode that converts the light intensity variations into electric signals. The advantage of this system is that microphone head and the electronics can be located far away from each other. Additionally, the component parts of the MO 2000 H acoustic-optical microphone head are made of a plastic material that is suitable for use in areas with aggressive substances, such as gases, and salts, or areas of high humidity and radiation. All components of the microphone head, including the optical waveguides, are free of metal with no electric current flow. Features: Microphone that uses light from and LED to monitor the motion of the diaphragm Construction of microphone makes it possible to use the optical microphone in areas in which other microphones could not function In medical applications, the microphone is ideal for use in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), for example to maintain communication with the patient during MRI scans or to achieve active noise cancellation in MRI. The optical microphone does not disturb the imaging process and is itself not influenced by the strong fields inside magnetic resonance imaging equipment In measuring technology, the microphone is ideal for use in EMI/EMC laboratories, as it does not influence the electric field. In this case, for example, it functions like an "ear on a mobile phone" A further application possibility is in the field of undetectable acoustic monitoring Get Your Sennheiser MO2000 Set Special Application Product Today!

Sennheiser IASMO2000 Set Special Application Product

Sennheiser IASMO2000 Set Special Application Product

$4668

Sennheiser IASMO2000 Set Special Application Product Operating Principle In the optical microphone, light from an LED is directed onto a reflective diaphragm via an optical-fibre cable (transmitter optical waveguide). The membrane reflects part of the light into a receiver optical waveguide. If the diaphragm is moved by sound signals, a displacement of the reflected light beam occurs, with the result that more or less light is coupled into the receiver waveguide. At the end of the receiver waveguide, a photodiode converts the light intensity variations into electric signals. The system complies with the requirements regarding intrinsically safe optical radiation according to EN 60079-0:2004 and EN 60079-28:2007. It also meets the requirements of the ATEX Directive on explosion protection, which was documented with the Type Examination Certificate TÜV 07 ATEX 553824 and TÜV 07 ATEX 553825X. This certification allows the IAS MO 2000 SET to be used in potentially explosive atmospheres of Zone 1 (e.g. gas processing plants). The IAS MO 2000 SET has the degree of protection IP 54 (5= protection against dust deposits, 4= protection against splashing water from all directions) and is therefore ideally suited for outdoor applications. Advantages The optical principle is the only microphone principle in which the microphone head and the electronics can be located far away from each other. The component parts of the MO 2000 H acoustic-optical microphone head (external diameter ½”) are made of a plastic material that is suitable for use in areas with aggressive substances (gases, salts, humidity) and radiation. All components of the microphone head, including the optical waveguides, are free of metal; no electric current flows. Applications These advantages make it possible to use the optical microphone in areas in which other microphones are not suitable. For example, the optical microphone can be used in potentially explosive atmospheres, such as for the acoustic monitoring of gas drying plants in natural gas production (IAS MO 2000 SET). In this case, the microphone can “hear” slow leaks, which, due to their small size, cause neither a pressure loss nor an alarm message in the other monitoring systems. In medical applications, the microphone is ideal for use in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), for example to maintain communication with the patient during MRI scans or to achieve active noise cancellation in MRI. The optical microphone does not disturb the imaging process and is itself not influenced by the strong fields inside magnetic resonance imaging equipment. In measuring technology, the microphone is ideal for use in EMI/EMC laboratories, as it does not influence the electric field. In this case, for example, it functions like an “ear on a mobile phone”. Features: Polar pattern: omni-directional Optical fibre: multimode 200/230 µm Frequency response: 20Hz to 40kHz (±6dB) Sensitivity: 1

Description

Light photons impinging upon a semiconductor material in the vicinity of a P-N junction release conduction carriers to produce current flow through the photodiode effect. Photodiode amplifiers convert this current to a voltage in a relationship that remains linear as long as the amplifier eliminates signal voltage swing from the photodiode...
