Photodiode Diodes what is the pin arrangment of a phototransistor used in computer mouse?
i took a photodiode and a phototransistor from a computer mouse and i want to use them in anouther application by measuring the pulses that came from the transistor by putting a wheel with holes between the diode and the transistor
the transistor have three pins i want to know which one is the collector and which is the base and which is the emmiter
The photodiode is what emits the IR light for the phototransistor to use. Measure the DC voltage on the photodiode... the positive voltage will be on the anode lead. Run the photodiode like you would any LED (with a series resistor).
The detector is not a regular phototransistor - it is a dual-sensor device (containing two phototransistors). Of the three pins, one will be common, usually connected to ground (like an emitter in an open-collector transistor circuit), and the other two leads will be tied to Vcc (positive supply voltage), through resistors.
Again with a DC voltmeter, find the circuit ground on the mouse board, and connect the negative lead from the meter there. Then measure the voltages on the three pins of the photodetector. The pin that always measures zero-volts will be the emitter (tied to circuit ground - almost always the center pin on the device). The other two pins will toggle between a low voltage (
These two pins are effectively open-collectors, and will sink current when there is light present (through one of the slots in the encoder wheel). Just connect these pins to positive voltage, and take the output from the junction between the resistor and the detector pin. Together, these two outputs will form two square waves that are 90° out of phase when the wheel is turned (or the mouse moves). Read up on "quadrature encoders" for more info on these signals.
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Diodes were a Canadian punk/new wave band formed in 1976. They released five albums: Diodes (1977), Released (1979), ActionReaction (1980), Survivors (1982), and Time/Damage Live 1978 (2010). One of the first Toronto bands playing that style of music, The Diodes helped foster the scene in the city. Along with manager Ralph Alfonso, The Diodes opened the first Canadian punk nightclub in 1977, called Crash n Burn, where many of the citys punk bands at that time played. The first band to play the club was The Nerves, on a double bill with The Diodes. The club was closed at the end of the summer of 1977 due to complaints by the Liberal Party of Ontario (the principal tenants of the building). In this book, I have optimized the growth of n and pGaN films, and high quality InGaN/GaN multiple quantum wells (MQWs) on sapphire (0001) substrate by a low pressure metalorganic chemical vapour deposition and have fabricated high brightness InGaN/GaN MQW lightemitting diodes (LEDs) under optimum conditions. To improve quantum efficiency which is generally poor in the conventional rectangularshaped QWs due to spatial indirect recombination induced by internal piezoelectric field, we proposed a possibility of quantum dot (QD) engineering with triangularshaped band structure in the InGaN/GaN QWs. The structural and optical properties of the InGaN/GaN MQWs with different threading dislocation densities were also investigated. The effects of Sidoped nGaN and Mgdoped pGaN layers on the electrical and optical properties of the InGaN/GaN MQW LEDs were investigated and optimized under various growth parameters. Organic lightemitting diode (OLED) technology is used in a variety of display applications, ranging from cell phones and MP3 to prototype TVs, and holds great promise for the production of highly efficient largearea light sources and flat panel displays. It has the potential to become a multibilliondollar industry within a few years. The biggest technical challenge for OLEDs is the limited lifetime associated with elevated temperatures and exposure to moisture. The guaranteed hours of operation (15,000 hr) is currently inadequate for most TVs and replacement of LCDs with the 60,000 hr halflife. This book, therefore, investigated the thermalactivated and moistureinduced degradation pathways of small molecule based prototype OLEDs as well as interfacial electronic properties at the nanoscale level through realtime visualization. The results should help shed some lights on improving luminescence efficiency and lifetime of OLEDs, and should be especially useful to professionals in research and development of not only OLED technology but other organic electronics, or anyone else who may be interested in plastic electronics. Revised and fully up-dated, the second edition of this graduate textbook offers a comprehensive explanation of the technology and physics of LEDs such as infrared, visible-spectrum, ultraviolet, and white LEDs made from III-V semiconductors. Elementary properties such as electrical and optical characteristics are reviewed, followed by the analysis of advanced device structures. With nine additional chapters, the treatment of LEDs has been vastly expanded, including new material on device packaging, reflectors, UV LEDs, III-V nitride materials, solid-state sources for illumination applications, and junction temperature. Radiative and non-radiative recombination dynamics, methods for improving light extraction, high-efficiency and high-power device designs, white-light emitters with wavelength-converting phosphor materials, optical reflectors, and spontaneous recombination in resonant-cavity structures are discussed in detail. With exercises, solutions, and illustrative examples, this textbook will be of interest to scientists and engineers working on LEDs and graduate students in electrical engineering, applied physics, and materials science.
This work is devoted to the study on Polymer Light Emitting Diodes (PLEDs) based on polyfluorenes, a promising class of semiconductive polymers for lightemitting diode applications. It covers theories of PLEDs, literature overview of polyfluorenebased lightemitting diodes, as well as research results by the authors. In this study, several types of PLED devices based on neat polyfluorenes or polyfluorene blends were designed, fabricated, and characterized. The electrical characteristics of two neat polyfluorenes were simulated via using space charge limited current theory for the holeonly case and/or exploiting a commercial software package. Light photons impinging upon a semiconductor material in the vicinity of a P-N junction release conduction carriers to produce current flow through the photodiode effect. Photodiode amplifiers convert this current to a voltage in a relationship that remains linear as long as the amplifier eliminates signal voltage swing from the photodiode...
The book provides an introductory review of the concepts in physics of semiconductor heterostructures (quantum wells) and basic problems in spin transport and spin relaxation. Materials discussed in the book are iron and iron-cobalt as conventional ferromagnets, and III-V semiconductors (GaAs, InGaAs, AlGaAs)...
High-speed Photodiodes in Standard CMOS Technology describes high-speed photodiodes in standard CMOS technology which allow monolithic integration of optical receivers for short-haul communication. For short haul communication the cost aspect is important , and therefore it is desirable that the optical receiver can be integrated in the same CMOS technology as the rest of the system...
