When are the Voyager missions expected to relay new photos?
Do you remember the Professor from Gilligan's Island? It was said that he could build a radio from two coconuts and Gilligan's hat (but couldn't fix a hole in a boat... well, if you know ANYTHING about academic types, if one was stuck on an island with two beautiful women, he would NEVER fix the hole in the boat... or create new clothing from palm fronds), well, all those guys working at the "home base" for the planetary probes are like the Professor. Both Voyagers are worthless scrap now, but somehow these boffins have them still measuring cosmic radiation, using the handy cup-holder, I think, and radioing the information back to Earth powered by static electricity from a pair of fuzzy dice. (and everyone told me that including the fuzzy dice was a bad idea!)
Real science from practically nothing. These guys don't give up. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if next spring (on Mars ) they get Phoenix up and running again.
