Optics Holder Where can I find information on Optics?
I am looking for some information on some optics I was given. The box contains a metal slide holder with a built in probe. It also contains a tube with a lens marked EDSCORP on one side and 10 0.25 JAPAN. on the other. There are also two other lenses that are unmarked. I would like any information on these optics or help in finding information. They came from an old science classroom and I have no idea on how old they are. Everything is in excellent condition. There is a little tarnish on the slide holder, and the two smaller lenses show signs of use, but the tube and larger lens very clean.
As you have two unmarked lenses you'll never find out about them from a book/manufacturers charts/the web. You'll need to test them yourself.
Fortunately it's very easy to test them to find out their properties.
Focus is easy shine light through and see where it converges. More accurate testing of this can be done with a laser and observing speckle patterns.
Once you know the focus measure the curvature and from that you can calculate the refractive index of the lens.
Optics gives a comprehensive and balanced account of traditional optics as well as some of the recent developments in this field while meeting the requirements of a course on optics meant for undergraduate students of science and engineering.

Does anyone have any constructive criticism or comments concerning; CZ Slavia 631's? recommend a decent scope?
I just bought it for $159.99 @my local Home hardware store. It is a real nice looking air rifle with a longer than usual barrel(for an air rifle). It seems to be of quality manufacture as well. I would like to know if there is anything that can be done to improve its power though. The manual says that the velocity is reduced to ship into sertain countries in acordance with local laws.(Canada fits this criteria) I how ever am a FAC holder and would be willing to register it as a firearm if necisary to improve its velocity. I am looking @ useing the airrifle for pest control and small game hunting.
Also can anyone recomend a decent scope for a reasonable cost? I am not thinking of the standard 4x10 tasco. scopes sold for airrifles. I was thinking more like whats is equiped on some of the beemanns I have seen (2-7x20,coated, sealed optics)
hi. the cz 631 is a good gun. i have one myself. its very accurate. A decent tuning will increase the fps of the gun. Mine goes 620 on the chrony with crossman superpoint pellet. Mounting a scope on the gun will be a hassle. It has a 13 mm dovetail groove and most airgun groove are 11mm. you can get a reversable mount or customize your own mount by grinding them to fit. its gonna be hard to find a mount for it, but some company sells them or either custom make the mount. If you do get a scope. get something smaller like a 32 mm. 40mm+ is too big and you need to make a space to align the scope with the barrel just incase of barrel droop... Enjoy ..
