Why not use fibreglass and lenses instead of CCTV for rear vision?

Some top-end cars use closed circuit TV (camera at rear, screen on dashboard) instead of rear vision mirrors to eliminate the blind spot. These are expensive to buy and bloody expensive to repair. Why not use a cheap, passive system consisting of a fibre optic bundle, lenses and a projection screen?
