When you go for glasses the optician should tell you about the options and advantages of each type of lens that would be good for your prescription, depending on the powers you need.
Certain indexes should only be used above certain powers for the best optical quality of vision.

Yeah, my eyesight has gotten so bad, that i need glasses/lenses.
I didn't want lenses, cause i can't put anything in my eyes, so i picked glasses. Now i've tried different glasses, and the optic and me thought these were the best :p
