Negative Air Ion
my air purifier releases negative ions, isnt that bad wont it make me sad?
ok it said it releases negative ions so they attach themselves to dirty air stuff making it easier to clean, but I want positive ions not negative ones, wont that make me all sad and depressed? I heard they do
oh good I dont live in cracktown so I should be ok then
they only will in crack town. Even if they did it wouldn't matter because the ions are then attracted to the positively charged electrodes in the air purifier.

Negative Ions Made by Collisional Ionization $106.74 Negative ions are common in solutions and important in many biological processes, but they are far less wellcharacterized in the gas phase compared to positive ions. The transient negative ion can release part of its excess energy to the alkali positive ion in the form of translation and a stable negative ion could be formed. The energetics of the collision is studied and the electron affinities of the negative ions are measured. This study opens a new pathway to produce negative ions and provides insight into the electron transfer mechanism. 20 Million Negative Air Ion Generator
Why does my aircon make me feel irritable when on the hot air setting? Anything to do with negative ions?
Maybe it's just my imagination, but I think it also makes me feel more tired. I know people say the theories around negative ions are pseudoscience and a way to sell products, so I don't know what to think. Whatever the reason, can a humidifier make a difference?
Negative ions (or cations) won't have that sort of effect on human health. They would ionise the dead skin on contact, but as the skin is dead this is not a cancer risk. If you inhale cations there might be a slightly higher risk, but the risk is extremely minimal.
Also, why would your aircon be emitting cations? Any humidity in the air would deionise them.
You may be irritable due to the constant hum of the machine. The drier air might make your throat feel drier, and that would add to the irritation. If you could dampen the sound, you would probably feel less irriable. Maybe a humidifier would help because it would make the air you breathe feel less artificially dry.
In any case, 'negative ions' aren't an issue here.
