Physics problem asking to find how long an image of a meterstick thats reflected in a mirror.. help!?
A meterstick lies along the optical axis of a convex mirror of focal length -35 cm, with its nearest end 51 cm from the mirror. How long is the image of the meterstick? in cm
For the nearer end of the meter stick we have 1/f = 1/do + 1/di
do 1/di = 1/f - 1/do = 1/-35 - 1/51 => di = -20.76cm
Fo the other end do = 1.51cm
so 1/di = 1/-35 - 1/1.51 => di = -52.85cm
So the meter stick will appear to be 52.85 - 20.76 = 32.1cm

Having some trouble with this optical physics problem?
A pencil is held perpendicular to the optical axis of a concave spherical mirror. The pencil is 84 cm from the center of the mirror, and its image is found 22 cm from the mirror.
Find the focal length of the mirror? What is the radius of curvature of the mirror?
** I have found the magnification to be -.26 and I thought the focal length would be R/2 which yeilds 42cm But somehow it's wrong..I also do not understand how to find the radius of the mirror
84 cm is not the radius of the mirror, but is the object distance
use 1/p +1/q=1/f
p=object distance = 84 cm
q=image distance = 22 cm
or
1/84 + 1/22 = 1/f => f=17.4 so the radius of curvature is twice the focal length, or 34.8 cm
