Low Forward Voltage Diodes

need some help in semiconductors?

I have two questions..

1. What exactly happens at the time when the diode which is forward biased attains the threshold voltage? Does the depletion layer completely disappears due to which the current increases so rapidly...? pls explain.

2, Why the drift current is so low? I have read that it happens so due to the motion of carriersfrom their minority side to their majority side across the junction.can u pls explain this.

logic gates using diodes?

in the above link, when OR gates are constructed using diodes, when either of the diodes are forward biased output voltage is high.
at the same time in AND gates when both are forward biased the output goes low and it has been mentioned that the resistor pulls the output to low.
i dont understand the concept. can anyone explain the concepts involved?

in OR, no Vcc and load across common R , so anyone diode conducting by input 1 will drive current from input at 1 level (that's near Vcc), thru' that diode and thru' load R so voltage near Vcc developes across r and output is 1 . another diode also conducting by another input 1 will not change output level.

in AND, the diodes are reversed in direction than in OR and common output end is taken to Vcc. the output betwen common end to ground. both inputs 0 or anyone input 0, willmake the diode(s) conducting and output is very low (near 0) developed across diode forward resistance. now, only when both inputs are 1(that's near Vcc), no diode will conduct and whole Vcc will be available as 1 at the output.

it's all about Vcc being 1 , ground being 0 and voltages developed across load output when diode(s) conducting and non-conducting.
