Light Emitting Diode Voltage
explain why the current passing through the light emitted diode experience a voltage drop?
All diodes, whether light emitting or just recitifiying ones, have a built in potential drop. This voltage drop can be from 0.6V up to a few volts for LEDs. This voltage is fixed depending on the type of LED and also the colour emmitted as a red LED has a different bandgap structure to a green led and so the potential drop is slightly differnent. It is the bandgap of the P & N junction of the diode that directly determins the forward conduction voltage drop, which is ultimatly determined by the silicon and the dopants used to make it.

CarbazoleBased Emitting Compounds $141.79 Carbazole is a heterocyclic tricyclic aromatic organic compound consisting of two sixmembered benzene rings fused on either side of a fivemembered nitrogencontaining ring. A large number of carbazole derivatives have been designed and synthesized and organic electronic devices based on these derivatives such as organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), have been investigated. The optical and electrical properties of carbazoles are affected by substitution on the 2, 3, 6, 7 and 9Hpositions. Many carbazole derivatives have sufficiently high triplet energy to make them an efficient host where they can serve as red, green, or blue triplet emitters. Would an LED's wavelength increase if the temperature was colder?
In my lab we dipped light emitting diodes in liquid nitrogen and then had to measure wavelengths. My group messed up though, and now I don't know if the liquid nitrogen increased the wavelength of the LED. Also, would it make the voltage higher or lower?
wavelength about the same, voltage would be a little lower, but the light output should increase, you could check the web site of the LED manufacturer as they usually supply this data
