How can I distinguish the polarity of a light emitting diode (LED)? Will it get busted if I connect wrong..?

Carbazole is a heterocyclic tricyclic aromatic organic compound consisting of two sixmembered benzene rings fused on either side of a fivemembered nitrogencontaining ring. A large number of carbazole derivatives have been designed and synthesized and organic electronic devices based on these derivatives such as organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), have been investigated. The optical and electrical properties of carbazoles are affected by substitution on the 2, 3, 6, 7 and 9Hpositions. Many carbazole derivatives have sufficiently high triplet energy to make them an efficient host where they can serve as red, green, or blue triplet emitters. Highly fluorescent and stable carbazolebased compounds were synthesized and characterized. Substitution of carbazoles at 3 and 6 position by tertbutyl group enhanced the solubility. Suitably susbtituted carbazoles form highly stable fluorescent organic nanoparticles. The Battle for the Top TV: Which One Will You Pick?

Over the many years that TV technology has been around, and with ever expanding advances in the technology, the TV of today is far different from the TV just 10 years ago. Today we have flat screen, LCD, LED, Plasma & and the brand new TV from SAMSUNG, were the are claiming they have made a 3D-TV. However, the important aspects of this technology can confuse many people, when they are in the market for a new television. However, there is one key tips to remember, all the jargon about TV only describes one thing. That is the size and resolution of the TV.

That is because today's TVs are much higher resolution and have a much cleaner and finer picture quality. Compare this to the TVs of 10 plus years ago and you will notice the dramatic changes that have happened.

In order to stand out from the noise, many manufacturers have now designed unique features in their flat-screen and LCD TVs models. Each of these unique factors have a different aspect in the TV or movie watching experience. Many of them all have personal preference, for example, some people perfect to have a better picture then to have the best sound. And on the other hand, some enjoy the thundering sound of a good 5.1 sound system.

Personally, I enjoy them both, but if I have to pick just one. Then the sound would have to be it. Now in the market today, you have a variety of options to choose from. I've have mentioned some of them above, and those are the top ones you can get today. However, I don't think that serves it justice. So, let me go further into detail about them. It is my goal to help you make a better purchasing decision for your new TV.

Plasmas – The Glowing TV

As I said above, all the jargon talks about the size and resolution of the TV. In a plasma TV, how it delivers the picture is by millions of very tiny plasma cells. The reason why it is called "Plasmas" is because it has the plasmas gas, which emits a strong light in many different colors, when the right voltage is applied to the gas. This is what creates the picture you and I see.

However, because of the way it creates the picture, the screen size can only get so big. So if you are wanting a huge TV, then you may not want a plasmas. However, on the good side, the picture quality is extremely high. Many plasmas sizes are in the 30 inches to 63 inches. But like I said the 63 inches, the picture quality isn't all that great.

The Benefits of a Plasma TV are the Following:

  • Plasmas have a much better picture quality.
  • They have much better contrast ratios. (Which just means the different colors stand out better. The black is black and the red is red.)
  • Unlike LCDs, plasmas can be viewed from any angle. They have a full 180 degrees.
  • The refresh rate is high, which creates a smooth flow in the movement in the screen. (Good in action and fast paced movies)

The Bad Things about Plasmas

  • Sense the Plasmas are like the fast pace, speed driven aspects. The life cycle of a plasma is short.
  • They can get burn in very easy. This just means, the picture gets burned into the screen and you will forever see that image in the screen. It's very annoying.
  • They are much bigger the TV of today. And therefore much heavier.
  • They get hot and a period of use.

The Crystal in the Rough, An Overview of LCD TVs

LCD stands for "Liquid Crystal Display" and it is mainly used for computer screens, cell phones and cameras. LCD TVs can handle many fast action scenes from movies and video games. But the picture quality is only in the mid-to decent range. But then again, the decision depends on the user's choice. However, in my limited option, when you compare the picture quality to a Plasma, there really isn't much difference. But I'm an sound guy, so my thoughts on picture quality shouldn't' be yours.

The way LCD TVs work is the liquid crystal solutions in the TV are pressed or sandwiched between two polarized glasses. When an electric voltage is properly applied, the crystals begin to rotate and just like a prism, it produces the light that you see. It is interesting to note, that the LCD itself doesn't emit any light, what it does is it subtracts the back light source to create the image you see. A little bit useless info, when you are buying a TV I know, but it's pretty cool

The Good and Bad of LCD

  • LCD have a much longer life span then there sister the Plasma. The average life-span of a well taken care LCD is 30 years.
  • Sense the picture quality of an LCD is slightly lower, the power consumption is much reduced. Yay, lower bills.
  • The screen sizes are much bigger, they can easily handle an 60 inch TV and the picture quality is not affected.

On No, the Bad Stuff

  • Due to the video quality, the contrast levels are consider low or slow during fast moving images. This is what's creates the break ups in the scenes. Looks all scrambled and stuff.
  • Gonna cost you a pretty penny and maybe an arm or leg. They are expensive. However, with the demand, the price should come down. Strike one for the free market.

The LED TV – the Light Bright TV

This one stands for "Light Emitting Diode", and I call this one the light bright TV. Do you remember those kid toys that you will punch in a black paper and design an image? Well this is how this TV works. This works because it emits a back light, and the LED produce the color needed to display the image.

The Good of LED

  • Far better and dynamic contrast levels then the LCD or the Plasmas.
  • They are ultra then, many are only one inch in thickness.
  • The power consumption is super low. Properly won't even notice it on your electricity bill.
  • Consider one of the most reliable TVs on the market today.

Here We Go Again, the Bad Things…

  • Sense they are still pretty new, the price is the most expensive aspect. But if the free market hangs in there, the prices will go down in an couple of years.

Don't let this short article let you think that this is all the TV's that are out there. There are many other types of TV that are on the market. For example, there are project TVs that work just like a project. These are really cool as well. They have huge screen sizes, like 110 plus inches, and the picture quality doesn't suffer at all. And they are pretty cheap, you can get a good one for $600 online. Remember, in the end, it is all about user experience, first decide what type of person you are. Audio or visual, next decide what type of budget you want to spend, then make the best choice.
