Resistor: Made of carbon. Opposies or resists flow of current, so we can control the amount of current in a circuit, (amperes). Compare to a small narrow part in a water flow pipe.
Capacitor: Made of aluminium foil plates kept close to each other with a dielectric between them. It stores charge, and releases it quickly to the circuit when needed. Compare to a water tank to store water, and release it when needed.
Diode: Is a semiconductor device that allows current to flow in only one direction, and blocks it in the opposite direction. It has a voltage rating, in the sense that a 100 volt diode will block reverse current with a voltate of less than 100 volts, after which it will break down. Compare to a one-way-valve in a water pipe from tank to the geysers, so that water does not flow backwards.
Inductor consists of a coil of wire, aroud air core or ferromagnetic material. It stores current in the magnetic field that forms due to current flowing in the coil. When the current flow stops, the magnetic field collapses, and thus a reverse current is developed in the coil. It is like a spring that stores energy in its coil.
LED is "light emiting diode'. It is a special diode that emits light of a particular frequency when current flows through it.
