Lasers How strong do Pointer Lasers have to be to burn something, or start fires, etc?
Like what does the power level have to be? And does the color really matter?
Please give me all info about them as possible.
Lasers are categorized in classes. Class 1 lasers are 5mw or less and are commonly available to consumers. They wouldn't burn flash paper.
It takes something like 100 mw to be considered a risk, such as to vision, and even higher power to cause burns. Such classes are restricted and licenses are required to sell and buy them. The only way Joe Consumer can get a laser with enough power to light off combustibles is to buy one on the black market or steal one from a company licensed to own one.
The problem with lasers that powerful is size, not to mention water cooling to keep them from burning themselves out. And that's just for the ones as laser light shows which are only capable of popping balloons.
