How can we start stimulated emission in forming Laser from an rdinary light light source?
In order to get a lasing effect, you need to generate a population inversion. Most orginary light sources (except LED's) would not be good sources of stimulated emission, but could be used to pump another material that could achieve population inversion. This material would be called the gain medium.
Almost any transparent-ish material could possibly be made to lase (provide stimulated emission) if pumped hard enough. I've heard of people making jello lasers and vodka lasers, for example. These materials require a huge amount of pump (input) light and would not produce much stimulated emission. That is why we don't use them as laser materials. Common laser materials include CO2, Helium-Neon, Ruby, Ti:Sapphire, Nd:YAG to name a few.
