Laser Diode 650nm 5mw I need to know what kind of resistor to use on a 5mW 650nm red laser diode, if I use 2 AA batteries(3v)?

Laser diodes require special driver circuits using active devices to regulate the current. Some laser diodes also have a feedback photodiode to be used by the driver circuit to set the proper current. Using a resistor would greatly increase the likelihood of destroying the laser diode.
Furthermore, you can't simply assume P=E^2/R and plug in 5 mW for P and 3 for E. An 1800-ohm resistor would dissipate 5 mW if connected across a 3-volt supply IN ABSENCE OF A LASER DIODE. It would not be appropriate to drive a 5 mW laser diode.
