what should i look for in a radar/laser detector?

im looking for one for my trans am, and the prices range from $15 to $300. what features are important to have, which are useless, etc. The cops here in atlanta use laser a lot, and i was wondering which would detect laser soon enough to give you a chance to do something about it, and which avoid false alarms (which cause me to ignore the thing anyway, which isnt good). seems like if a laser is pointed specifically at ur car it'd be hard to get away from it.

Don't waste your money. Once they lock on to you, your done. Just drive slower, or follow behind someone going faster.

what Radar/Laser Detector should i get for under $100?

I am looking to buy a Radar/Laser Detector and i was wondering what are some good ones for under $100. Are the cobra brand ones good? Also what do the 6 band or 12 band features mean, im new to Radar/Laser Detectors and i want to know what these things mean.

As an alternative to buying a cheap radar detector, I would seriously consider just never driving fast. The cheaper the radar detector, the fewer features it has, the fewer radar bands it detects, the less likely it is to detect those bands, the more often you will receive false alerts, and the more visible it is to police radar detector detectors (RDD). If you use a cheap radar detector, you are likely to 1. not receive an alarm when you should, 2. receive false alarms when you shouldn't, and 3. receive a ticket and have the device confiscated.

If you can't afford at least $200 for a radar/laser detector, just slow down. You'll save yourself money from buying a useless radar detector, and potentially insurance points, time off of work, court costs and fines when your cheap radar detector fails to detect a hidden speed trap. 6 or 12 bands refers to the number of different police radar bands detected by the device.
