Laser Assembly Second hand ps3 - Discs wont play at all.?
i brought a second hand ps3. got it home, worked, Lovely. month later was playing resistance, game froze, so i switched it off at the back. know no games will load up at all. everything Else works, xmb media bar, music and demos , now ive researched into this problem and im swinging towards replacing the laser assembly. now i don't wanna spend £40+ p+p on something which isn't gonna work. so i need an opinion, is it the laser, the whole drive, or the control board. i really need an answer as christmas fast approaches and ive already got games coming for christmas.
note: well the seal was broken so i tried cleaning the laser..................... nope. nadda, zip bubkisss. well laser assemballys on ebay, here i come, any body recommend any good sellers?
I'd wager it's the laser assembly.
That seems to be the most common problem with some of the "first model" PS3's. The later 80gb and beyond are much better in terms of the blu-ray drive's durability.

The device that emits a beam to be reflected off a dvd or cd to be picked up by an optical sensor. This is the little glass eye you see when you open your portable cd player. the unit then sends the information the the memory and processor to be converted to the appropriate media for playback. The assembly may or may not have a drive motor attatched.
