Infrared Optics

With fibre optics used in endoscopy, is the light used visible light or Infrared, Or is it both??
That took me straight to google which ive already searched without success, but thanks
Thanks Mark, but its not something i'm having done, its for a physics seminar i've been given on visible light. What you just said about endoscope's not using fibre optics has completely confused me now as my physics text book states under a endoscopic picture:
"this photo was taken through an endoscope, an instrument used by surgeons for looking inside the body. The endoscope contains a long thin bundle of optical fibers (fibre optics)."
It is visible light and it doesn't use fibre optics!
I have many colonoscopies and am going to have another one soon. The endoscope has to carry a lot of equipment and has to make allowances for this.
My guess is you're going to have a procedure done that will use an endoscope? There is nothing to worry about, I have had one of these things in both ends of me.
If you are worried why not see if the hospital will let you see the endoscope before you have your procedure? Oh and by the way you will normally be given a sedative first.
Good luck.
Mark

Optics $143.39 Optics is the branch of physics which studies the behavior and properties of light, including its interactions with matter and the construction of instruments that use or detect it. Optics usually describes the behavior of visible, ultraviolet, and infrared light. Because light is an electromagnetic wave, other forms of electromagnetic radiation such as Xrays, microwaves, and radio waves exhibit similar properties. Most optical phenomena can be accounted for using the classical electromagnetic description of light. Complete electromagnetic descriptions of light are, however, often difficult to apply in practice. Practical optics is usually done using simplified models. The most common of these, geometric optics, treats light as a collection of rays that travel in straight lines and bend when they pass through or reflect from surfaces. Physical optics is a more comprehensive model of light, which includes wave effects such as diffraction and interference that cannot be accounted for in geometric optics. Historically, the raybased model of light was developed first, followed by the wave model of light. MillimetreWave Optics, Devices and Systems $302.61 The millimetrewavelength region of the electromagnetic spectrum is increasingly exploited for a wide range of commercial, industrial, and military applications. Conventionally, this region is considered as lying above microwaves and below the infrared. Hence, in practice, millimetrewave scientists have tended to pick and mix useful techniques on an empirical basis from both these areas. MillimetreWave Optics, Devices and Systems describes the fundamental physics of the quasioptical techniques, devices, and system design for instruments processing millimetrewave signals. Relevant ideas from Gaussian beam mode theory and antenna and transmission line theory are brought together to show the underlying unity of optics and electronics. Aimed at advanced undergraduates and postgraduates as well as millimetrewave, laser optics, antenna, and microwave engineers, this book will also be of interest to manufacturers of millimetrewave and microwave equipment.
