Infrared Led Diodes

How to Calculate ohm resistance needed for a circuit?
I wanna run a complete simple circuit consisting of 3 infrared diodes (IRED?), 1 LED, and powered by 2 AAA batteries.
My question is, how do I calculate the type of resister I need so I don't blow up the LED and the IREDs. I can only assume that the ohm resister value needed doesn't depend on the type of LED/IRED I use.
As a 2nd question, if I add one or two more AAA batteries to power the circuit, does that mean I need to change the resister as well?
The resistor(s) values DO depend on the specifications for the LEDs (all 4) that you have. The IR diode is actually an IR LED.
With only 3 volts, you will need a resistor for each LED, and that resistor value depends on the Vf of the LED and the current spec for the LED. Each string of 1 LED and 1 resistor is across the battery, in parallel.
I'll do one sample calculation. If the Vf of the LED is 2 volts and you want 20 mA of current, and you have a 3 volt battery, the R = (3–2)/0.02 = 50 ohms.
If you change to 4.5 or 6 volts (3 or 4 cells) then you have to change the calculation. And, depending on the Vf, you may be able to put two in series, so, instead of 4 different strings, you may have only 2 or 3 strings.
Email me when you have the needed info.

Red and Near Infrared Microcavity LightEmitting Diodes $196.21 Lighting is essential to modern society but it accounts for nearly 20 of the electrical energy usage. Thus efforts to increase the conversion efficiencies of light sources are attracting more and more attention. Potential high efficiency light sources are fluorescent lamps or lightemitting diodes (LEDs). Modern LEDs show internal quantum efficiencies of virtually 100 . However, in the case of standard LEDs most of this light is trapped inside the device because of total internal reflection at the interface semiconductorair. Several methods have been developed in order to increase the extraction efficiency. This can be done either by optimizing the device geometry in order to increase the escape cone or by incorporating a resonant structure in order to force the internal emission into the existing escape cone. The latter approach is called microcavity LED (MCLED) or resonant cavity LED (RCLED) and is presented in detail in this work. Novel concepts to further increase the external quantum efficiency are discussed and experimental results are presented. The Diodes $93.99 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Diodes were a Canadian punk/new wave band formed in 1976. They released five albums: Diodes (1977), Released (1979), ActionReaction (1980), Survivors (1982), and Time/Damage Live 1978 (2010). One of the first Toronto bands playing that style of music, The Diodes helped foster the scene in the city. Along with manager Ralph Alfonso, The Diodes opened the first Canadian punk nightclub in 1977, called Crash n Burn, where many of the citys punk bands at that time played. The first band to play the club was The Nerves, on a double bill with The Diodes. The club was closed at the end of the summer of 1977 due to complaints by the Liberal Party of Ontario (the principal tenants of the building). Light-Emitting Diodes (Hardcover) $186.1 Revised and fully up-dated, the second edition of this graduate textbook offers a comprehensive explanation of the technology and physics of LEDs such as infrared, visible-spectrum, ultraviolet, and white LEDs made from III-V semiconductors. Elementary properties such as electrical and optical characteristics are reviewed, followed by the analysis of advanced device structures. With nine additional chapters, the treatment of LEDs has been vastly expanded, including new material on device packaging, reflectors, UV LEDs, III-V nitride materials, solid-state sources for illumination applications, and junction temperature. Radiative and non-radiative recombination dynamics, methods for improving light extraction, high-efficiency and high-power device designs, white-light emitters with wavelength-converting phosphor materials, optical reflectors, and spontaneous recombination in resonant-cavity structures are discussed in detail. With exercises, solutions, and illustrative examples, this textbook will be of interest to scientists and engineers working on LEDs and graduate students in electrical engineering, applied physics, and materials science. |

Testing IR transmitter diode
I have one infrared LED and an infrared photo diode. How do i make an obstruction sensor out of these?
I have an infrared LED and an infrared receptor (which looks similar to an LED).
Now, my idea is to create an obstruction sensor such that when the obstruction is removed from the path of the light from the IR LED, the sensor should pick up the light from the LED and should let current pass (to a transistor, which then opens up to power an alectromagnet).
Can u please help on how to realise this.
Please also help me with information on supply voltage and the polarity.
I am not sure on an obstruction, but on power supplies and polarity I can help you with. are you wanting to know polarity of a power supply or the diodes?
