What point and shoot camera with the biggest image sensor?
The Sigma DP-1 has a DSLR-size sensor measuring 20.7mm x 13.8mm. Its major shortcoming is its fixed focal length 28mm lens. That's right, no zoom.
The sensor in the Canon G10 measures 7.6mm x 5.7mm.

The Sigma DP-1 uses the FOVEON 3X Image Sensor. There are 3 arrays of 4.7mp each which makes the DP-1 a 14.1mp camera. I suggest reading a review of the camera. Image Sensor for Detection of Gases $95.59 This work shows the results of silicon MOS device as a sensor of chemical image, for the detection and classification of hydrogen and ammonia gases, through the Scanning Light Pulse Technique (SLPT). The gate of the device was built from an AuPd bimetallic electrode, with nanometric thickness. It was proposed an X Y automatic position system for scanning the light pulsed beam, based on the PID control and on the Labview software. The data acquisition process was also automated via virtual instrumentation defined by the Labview software. The MOS device showed maximum sensitivity for hydrogen and ammonia gases when the width of the depletion layer has maximum value. The chemical images obtained from the MOS sensor response, in SLPT operation mode for hydrogen and ammonia environments, respectively, showed characteristic patterns to each kind of gas, independent of the concentration used, allowing the complete classification of these gases. But it won't make much a difference, after all, it is still a point and shoot camera. That sensor is still 15 times smaller than that of a Digital SLR- so there's not going to be too much a change in Sensitivity to light, or Quality. Don't buy a camera based on the size of it's sensor, unless you're talking Full Frame on a digital SLR
