Hitachi Laser
my older ( 3 - 5yrs) Hitachi DVD player has developed an annoying habit?
It will start playing the DVD then unexpectedly freeze and give me an error message that the disc cannot be played. These are commercially produced discs. Does the laser need cleaning or is that a waste of time? And if cleaning works what is a good way to do it? The DVD player had received minimal use for at least the past year, but is now hooked up to a DLP projector and getting more use.
All DVD players need periodic cleaning and lubing of critical parts. This should be done at least once a year. The best way is to get a pro to do it.
Control dust and heat and you will not need to do this as often.

XBOX 360 LASER LENS/ DRIVE FLASHING?
i installed a new lens in my xbox 360 hitachi dvd drive but it doesnt work and the system does not recognize it. ive heard about flashing, is that what i need to do? if so how would it be done? please help havent played the 360 in months 
You biggest mistake was to try and do it yourself. XBOX 360 hardware isn't that easy to fix unless you really and I mean really know what you are doing. That's how Repair places can charge so much to do the repair and why Microsoft offers the extended warranty
