High Voltage Diodes

How does a camera charge a high voltage capacitor with low voltage?
i want to find out how they charge the 330v capacitors in cameras with only 3 volts i want to know if its the coil or the diodes on the circuit board that help charge the capacitor because if you charge a capacitor with 3 volts it only carries 3 volts please tell me!!
The 3 volts is first converted to high frequency AC (around 20 kHz) using a small transistor oscillator. This AC is applied to the primary of a step up transformer which has a secondary output voltage of around 300V. This is rectified back to DC using one diode (half wave rectification) and is then connected directly to the capacitor. The output of this circuit is limited in power so it takes a little time to charge the capacitor. The other components on the board are for triggering the flash.

The Diodes $93.99 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Diodes were a Canadian punk/new wave band formed in 1976. They released five albums: Diodes (1977), Released (1979), ActionReaction (1980), Survivors (1982), and Time/Damage Live 1978 (2010). One of the first Toronto bands playing that style of music, The Diodes helped foster the scene in the city. Along with manager Ralph Alfonso, The Diodes opened the first Canadian punk nightclub in 1977, called Crash n Burn, where many of the citys punk bands at that time played. The first band to play the club was The Nerves, on a double bill with The Diodes. The club was closed at the end of the summer of 1977 due to complaints by the Liberal Party of Ontario (the principal tenants of the building). Voltage Multiplier $68.51 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A voltage multiplier is an electrical circuit that converts AC electrical power from a lower voltage to a higher DC voltage by means of capacitors and diodes combined into a network. Voltage multipliers can be used to generate bias voltages of a few volts or tens of volts or millions of volts for purposes such as highenergy physics experiments and lightning safety testing. The most common type of voltage multiplier is the halfwave series multiplier, also called the Villard cascade (but actually invented by Heinrich Greinacher). Such a circuit is shown opposite. Voltage Doubler $54.86 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A voltage doubler is an electric circuit with an AC input and a DC output of roughly twice the peak input voltage. They are a variety of voltage multiplier circuit and are often, but not always, a single stage of a general form of such circuits. The term is usually applied to circuits consisting of rectifying diodes and capacitors only, other means of doubling voltages are not included. The Villard circuit consists simply of a capacitor and a diode. While it has the great benefit of simplicity, its output has very poor ripple characteristics. Essentially, the circuit is a diode clamp circuit. The Blue LightEmitting Diodes $114.71 In this book, I have optimized the growth of n and pGaN films, and high quality InGaN/GaN multiple quantum wells (MQWs) on sapphire (0001) substrate by a low pressure metalorganic chemical vapour deposition and have fabricated high brightness InGaN/GaN MQW lightemitting diodes (LEDs) under optimum conditions. To improve quantum efficiency which is generally poor in the conventional rectangularshaped QWs due to spatial indirect recombination induced by internal piezoelectric field, we proposed a possibility of quantum dot (QD) engineering with triangularshaped band structure in the InGaN/GaN QWs. The structural and optical properties of the InGaN/GaN MQWs with different threading dislocation densities were also investigated. The effects of Sidoped nGaN and Mgdoped pGaN layers on the electrical and optical properties of the InGaN/GaN MQW LEDs were investigated and optimized under various growth parameters. Light-Emitting Diodes (Hardcover) $186.1 Revised and fully up-dated, the second edition of this graduate textbook offers a comprehensive explanation of the technology and physics of LEDs such as infrared, visible-spectrum, ultraviolet, and white LEDs made from III-V semiconductors. Elementary properties such as electrical and optical characteristics are reviewed, followed by the analysis of advanced device structures. With nine additional chapters, the treatment of LEDs has been vastly expanded, including new material on device packaging, reflectors, UV LEDs, III-V nitride materials, solid-state sources for illumination applications, and junction temperature. Radiative and non-radiative recombination dynamics, methods for improving light extraction, high-efficiency and high-power device designs, white-light emitters with wavelength-converting phosphor materials, optical reflectors, and spontaneous recombination in resonant-cavity structures are discussed in detail. With exercises, solutions, and illustrative examples, this textbook will be of interest to scientists and engineers working on LEDs and graduate students in electrical engineering, applied physics, and materials science. |

In a high voltage multiplier, is it possible to put in a low voltage in the input and still get a higher?
voltage on the output?
Like would 120v go through 5 diode/capacitor couplings to become 600v?
put in a 6 to 1 transformer, or you could use an alternator. you first must know what amp your load requires. an alternator must have a small voltage input to start the device cycle, should the input voltage be cut off then the output would also stop. your best bet would be to use a transformer.(available at most electronic parts stores such as radio shack). to see if the transformer is the correct size, if you have a multi-meter and know how to use it, place the meter in ohms position,on the transformer there should be at least two wires coming out one side marked primary, also at least two wires on the other side marked secondary.( you may have other wires also usually these will appear in the center on each side and can be used for lesser voltage amounts). example would be on the primary side you put in 120 volt. then on the secondary side with a 6 to 1 transformer you should get a voltage of six times higher using the two outer wires on the secondary side, using the ground lead on the secondary side and the center tap wire you would get a voltage approx. one half or what the transformer is designed to produce with the center tap. in your case if you need 600volt then a 5 to 1 transformer would give you the 600 volt needed, however most applications would require more since you are reading the full value of the output with no load attached, usually you would calculate on what is called RMS value, this is 70 percent of the total rated value, therefore a 6 to 1 transformer would effectively produce a RMS value of approx. 504 volt.remember your application would probably run effectively on this 70 percent rms since the voltage would at times be higher (probably would go up to near 700 volt for short periods of time, the input fluxuation would also vary your output). going back to the ohm readings, make sure the transformer is not connected to any power source, lay the transformer on a non conductive surface such as plastic or wood, take one lead on the meter and place it on one lead one the primary side of the transformer, put the other lead on the other wire, do not touch the metal surface of either lead or the wire as this wil read the resistance fror your body. when you get a solid reading with no changing of numbers on a digital meter or no movement on the needle from an analog meter, record this value. do the same thing on the secondary side of the transformer, record this value. calculate the two values. example, the primary side read 8 ohm and the secondary read 48 ohm. if you divided 8 into 48 you would get the number 6. therefore you would have a 6 to one transformer. remember to turn off you meter when not in use and never leave the meter in ohm position to check voltage!!! this would fry the meter!! good luck, hope this helps! the dj man said that, who also happens to be an electronics tech.
