what high speed camera should i get?

i want a high speed camera at least 1000fps but at a relatively decent resolution. my budget is roughly £1000.

You'll need to rent this. At £1000, perhaps you can rent the camera for a week. Those sorts of cameras will require a small ransom to purchase. Old used ones go for £15k.

How much does your average high speed camera cost?

Let's not forget Pentax and Sony and Leica, and Olympus and Samsung and Panasonic and Fujifilm and Sigma.

There are more brands out there than just Nikon and Canon. Often you can find a better camera for less money if you just do a little bit of looking.

Right now there are 3 very attractive options in advanced DSLR's. They are the Canon XTi, The Pentax K10D, and the Olympus E-510.

All 3 are priced similarly

Out of the 3 I believe the Pentax to be the best value. It's build quality is better than the other two, it has a better viewfinder, it is compatible with every single K-mount lens ever produced (25 million +), it had in camera shake reduction which means that every lens you attach to it has the added benefit of being stabilized (with the Canon you have to pay extra for a stabilized lens), it has a self cleaning sensor, it has a spot meter built in (Canon doesn't), it has weatherproof sealing on the seams of the camera body, it has an in camera multi exposure mode, it has shutter priority mode, aperture priority mode, sensitivity priority mode and shutter/aperture priority mode.

There are too many other advantages to list, but I think you get the idea.

The XTi and E-510 have some of these features as well, but neither has all of them. The fast that the K10D started the year as a $1,000+ camera doesn't hurt either, Pentax is expected to release a newer model to better compete with the 40D and D300 from Canon and Nikon and this has driven the price down significantly.

The K10D costs on average $750 right now.
