Green Laser Star Pointing
Why can i not see the beam of my 1mW green laser pointer in a dark room?
I can see the point clearly, its great at long distances, but i cant see the beam at all! I could sort of see the beam outside, but theres a fair bit of light pollution and its cloudy/ rainy does that affect it? Will it get better, or is that the best i can expect? I can see the green dot very well, just no beam, so how am i meant to use it to point to stars?
You'll probably need dark-adapted eyes if you're in the suburbs. Read this a little way down.

Green Laser Pointer II $69.99 Okay, just about everyone has a red laser pointer. Heck, we even sell a fine one here at ThinkGeek. But, we're pretty sure you want to be a superior geek - and doing it with a green laser is the way to go. This pointer is significantly brighter (about 50 times) than a red laser pointer and because of its unusual color it is much more noticeable. I mean come on, a 532 nm green laser wavelength is obviously superior to a laughable 650 nm red laser wavelength. And unlike a red laser, the green beam itself can be seen in mid-air in dark conditions, not just the laser beam dot. This allows the green laser pointer to be used for pointing to star constellations (skypointing) and also just generally look cool as hell. The green laser beam dot can be seen at much greater distances than with a red laser pointer. Since green direct injection laser diodes aren't readily available, this pointer is based on the use of Diode Pumped Solid State Frequency Doubled (DPSSFD) laser technology. A high power IR laser diode at 808 nm pumps a tiny block of Nd:YVO4 generating light at 1,064 nm which feeds a KTP intracavity frequency doubler crystal to produce the green beam at 532 nm. Who will ship a green laser pointer over 5mW to the United States?
I have purchased many 50+ mW lasers over the past years and had them shipped directly from Hong Kong to the United States with no problems, but U.S. rules now are making companies think twice about shipping here.
No where does it say you can't ship here, it just says it has to be for research purposes or OEM..
I'm a scientist involved with telescopes, but my word isn't golden to the U.S.
We use them for star pointing.
All the obvious companies are out due to price, I had enough of paying $300 for a 50mW laser.

I bought a green 120mW (possibly Wicked Classic) with Glass IR filter that is tested and stable at 138mW for $109 from a Honk Kong Dealer, I only trust certain factories there...
So does anyone else know a reputable company or dealer who will import and guarentee shipment.
I may go to Alibaba and look for a company and deal myself.
Star pointing?
Do you have the proper laser licensing for higher power lasers in the U.S.? Won't companies accept that?
Are you scientist or OEM? If the former, why do you need many?
Dealing yourself sounds like a good idea - then you can handle all the customs and other paperwork you don't want to pay for.
