Will an affordable green laser pointer work out OK for home interferometry?

Every time I go online looking for a decent laser to do some optical/interferometric/prismatic trickery with, I discover that any laser with a decent coherence length is some high-dollar laboratory-style giant that I would have to sell a bunch of important organs to afford...
Bearing in mind that I am dirt poor, what are my options?

the best option is a HeNe (Helium Neon) laser, but will still cost you a few hundred bucks for a cheap one.

All laser pointers do not have enough of a collimated beam to do anything useful with.
