Your prices are to high on a few things:
you can get that e7400 for $130
The ram only goes for $45 for $10 more you can get a pc2 8400 1066

I recommend getting the Gigabyte ep45-ud3p mother board. It cost a bit more than the asus but it a much better mobo.

I have the same setup as I have described and It's a great set-up for the price. You can also upgrade two a Quad at anytime without having to change anything else.

With the Gigabyte mobo you can get the e7400 up 3.4 on a stock cooling fan.

Just do your home work on the prices. You can get more bang for the buck.

Does anyone know how to fix a computer that turns on but won't boot?

One of my computers just broke down and won't turn on. The night before it happened, the keyboard wasn't working even though its lights were on, and when I found out the next day that the computer wouldn't work, the laser mouse was extremely hot. I thought the power supply ran out at first, but after installing a new one, it still didn't work. Does anyone know anything I can do to fix it?

If I try to turn on the computer, the orange busy light comes on, but the green power light does not. Also, even though the computer won't start up on the monitor, the monitor, speakers, mouse, and keyboard all turn on. The keyboard's NumLock and CapsLock lights always stay on and won't turn off, the CapsLock light flashing brighter than the NumLock light.

Otherwise, is it possible to transfer the files from the hard drive on a computer like this to another computer?

Okay I am A+ certified and have run into this problem a couple times. It really sounds like your motherboard is shot. If you are a tech guy, then I would open the case up, and disconnect everything from the motherboard except psu and cpu and ram. If you get it to boot, then your mobo is good and it is something else. Connect your hard drive and see if it boots, if not then your hard drive is gone. If it won't boot the first time before you connect the hd, then take the mobo out of the case and try to get it to boot outside the case. it just be a short. I am trying to explain this as best as possible, but it is a little tricky. If you have any questions, then feel free to contact me.

in regards to your second question you can easily just put the old drive in a new computer and use it that way without any software to install. If the Hard drive turns out to be bad though, then you can still retrieve the info, but you will need to call in a professional.
