Green Laser Heat
Green Laser Heat
I want a 'burning' laser, I have a red class IIIA laser, but can I make it a red laser emit heat?

I was thinking of buying a $600 dollar 'burning' laser. I can only find green ones, and I know I can make my own. I have a red class IIIA pointing laser, and I know how to do everything, I'm just not sure I can do it with a red laser. I know it works for a green laser. Can someone tell me if I can 'patch' my red laser to emit heat?

A 250 mW laser is only a class III, not a IV. For CW lasers, they have to have power outputs greater than 500 mW to be a IV.

No, the wavelength of a solid state laser is fixed. You can't turn your red laser into an infrared laser.

Cheap Green Laser pen with heat

laser technology and burning ability?.?

hey guys i know that lasers create heat which is a problem because it may dim or even break after use..

but how the hell do they make high power laser pointers? without over heating or breaking down

and also made by hand that must be why it costs so much money

like for a 125mw green burning laser for $300 and top quality to.

so my question is do you have any idea how they make that stuff?
i mean who is the first person to actually be the smart one and think of lasers burning.

also who invented lasers or laser technology?sorry my questions arent clear lol.please answer them thnx

p.s a 125mw green laser appears 340 times brighter than a 3mw red laser pointer quick fact

I am not sure what you are asking

1. Lasers are not very efficient generators of light. Electrically stimulated semi-conductor lasers are the most efficient and they're, at best, only 25% efficient.

That means that 1 watt of power comes out as light for every 4 watts fed into the device. The remaining 3 watts appear as heat, which means that "high power" semiconductor lasers need good heat sinks and even water cooling:

http://www.st.northropgrumman.com/ceolaser/products/diodes/water_cooled.html

Other kinds of lasers are less efficient so the higher power lasers need major cooling system or they melt themselves. Water-cooled lasers are common in industry

http://www.coherent.com/Downloads/Laser_Cooling_Water_Guidelines.pdf

A typical industrial CO2 laser may have an output of 1500 watts while using 20-40,000 watts

2. Lasers don't burn anything.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_cutting

A. Lasers can provide a great deal of energy into a very small space. That energy heats the material and can easily be enough to vaporize it.

This is what most medical lasers do, as well as lasers intended as weapons in space.

B. If you add oxygen to hot material, then you can also initiate true burning - that is, oxidation.

This is what laser cutters do when they are used to cut steel, etc.
