Duty Stand
son refuses call of duty...should i stand up or stand down?
my son served well for 6 years the last 3 as a member of the old guard...now after two years on reserve status, he has received orders to report for assignment and refuses to answer... he comes from a very extended military family, as of today he has an uncle and three cousins deployed, an older cousin about to deploy for the third time and a younger one about to deploy for the first time in march...he has an uncle recently retired after 34 years of service and a father recently retired after 32 years...i may unable to understand his fear of having to walk away from his comfort zone,while the very blood of his family and that of many proud men before us paved the way...i love my son yet of this question, he is awol...in a few days he will be classified as a deserter...any thoughts you have would be welcomed...tks
Unfortunately, there's not much you can do. But i would try to impress upon him how huge it will be if he gets classified as a "deserter". Make sure he knows the ramifications.
