i keep reading around the web that the Wii's laser is damaged by SSBB because it's a dual layer. Is this true or just speculation?
What the problem is is that Smash Brothers was sold on a dual layer disc. Nintendo is claiming that the Wiis that cannot read the disc have dirty lenses. They will clean the lens for free and recommend not doing it yourself.
Now whether or not they are actually cleaning the lens or replacing it for a newer lens (did some Wiis get sub-par parts?) is pure speculation.
It will not damage your lens, but your lens may not be able to read the disc.
I have a launch Wii and mine didn't have any problems.

You have a pretty good computer, it depends for what you're doing. If you play simple computer games like WoW or something it's good but for Crysis your computer wouldn't stand a chance. I also have a gaming computer and I do think you should definitely upgrade to 4GB of RAM, I am upgrading also to http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231166. I have a Logitech MX Revolution and a Logitech G15(the original one) and they are both great. With the G5 you really don't get any gaming features. I would prefer the wireless G7 because it has more features. As for the g11, it really doesn't matter unless you want a screen. I like mine because it syncs with iTunes and tells you what song your playing, but that's just me
