Diode Voltage Regulators
voltage regulator design?
I'm in need of some help solving this problem. It in involved a zener diode voltage regulator. The circuit look like a power source in series with a resistor and it is parallel to a 1n4735 diode and a load resistor.
how would i do this problem:
Imagine that the input voltage is held constant at 12V and you try to vary the current sink (the load) from 0-150 mA. Calculate the setting of the current sink when the zener comes out of breakdown.
The 1n4735 zener diode nominally breaks down and conducts at 6.2V. When the voltage drop across the series resistor exceeds 5.8V (12V minus 6.2V), the zener comes out of breakdown.
Use ohms law to find the current.
I = V/R = 5.8V/R
